Finishing the paper CONTENTS FOREWORD DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS ACTIVITIES SPORTS JR. HIGH ELEMENTARY ADVERTISING FOREWORD Undisputably, curriculum is the root of a school, since Education is what school is all about. But an institution's principle task is not just to teach its scholars; it must also grow, to meet the changing needs of a changing society. This, then, is Woodland High's challenge, and one it has well and ably met, in striving for an up-to-date curriculum and for more efficient methods of conveying it. But, of course, the most modern curriculum would be useless if there were no instructors to pass on their knowledge to others. A teacher helps to mold a generation, giving them answers and reasons for believing. From his desire to help his students learn, he must enkindle them with the desire to learn. He must be their understanding friend and, at times, he should even be one of them. For only then can he build on yesterday adapt to the requirements of today, and prepare for the promise of tomorrow. In this, the Pursuit of Excellence, the faculty of Woodland High has proven itself well. In this year of 1971 when war, strife, and turmoil are commonplace rather than the exceptional, it is proper to pause and consider some Good Old Americanism. In our Reflections, we the staff of the Cardinal decided it be only fitting that we honor area men and former Woodland students who have put service to country above service for self. Therefore this book is hereby dedicated to all service men everywhere, past - present - and future. 4 NOIXVHlSINIIAiaV RANDEL J. BLANKENSHIP Superintendent RICHARD J. We must have in these activities things that will aid in both the enlargement and enrichment of the lives of the students in our schools. Interschool athletics can play a very large part in helping to shape the lives of our young men and women. The things of importance in life extend much farther than just the idea of winning basketball games. Athletics serve more purposes than just these associated with the games we play and whether or not we win. The coaches of Missouri are trying to instill in their athletes the ideas of good behavior, sportsmanship, honesty, and the proper attitude toward athletics. This is the goal of inter - school athletics. We must realize that athletics and physical education are a part of the education program, but only a part of it. We in the physical education profession are teachers first and coaches second. Coach at W. H.
