A closer cooperation with all grades should be possible, and a better coverage of all school activ- ities should be effected. It is our hope, also, that all groups represented in the Cardinal will take a more personal interest in future issues, and will contribute their share to the improvement of this annual publication. Donald L. Lax. jBedtcaium We, the 1962-63 Cardinal Staff, wish to dedi- cate this issue of the Cardinal to a teacher who has been with us only a few years, but who has already done a great deal for this school and the community. He has devoted much of his spare time to furthering the education of stu- dents at Woodland High. Ingratitude, we dedicate this 1963 Cardinal to our Industrial Arts Instructor, Mr. Donald Lax. Featured for the last time in our Cardinal, this building has withstood the ravages of time and the rushing steps of many high school students. Still under construction, the new plant now houses the upper elementary grades in one wing, but will be occupied in the fall of 1963 by all grades above the first two if it is completed on schedule. The Junior High Building has had part of its space devoted to the Home Economics Department in addition to providing classrooms for junior high classes. It has also housed the school's administrative offices. The Gymnasium will continue to feel the pounding steps of the Woodland Cardinals for the present since no facilities will be provided in the new loca- tion. The Agriculture Building will remain as headquarters for Vocational Ag. and F. F.A. The primary grades will con- tinue to use the building in Marble Hill. Long-suffering and unassuming, the little building which bore up bravely under the ear-defying sounds of wrong notes, clarinet shrieks, and drum beats during countless practice sessions of Woodland band and chorus members, came to its tragic end by fire during the early spring of 1963. DMINISTRATION Mr. Claude Stone, Superintendent Superintendent’s Message Greetings and congratulations to the Cardinal Staff. As in the past two years, the new school plant is still a current topic. Also, it is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to the Woodland Schools. At the time we write this, we fully expect that the Cardinal will be distributed to pupils who have already taken over the new building. We hope the new surroundings will be the means of inspiring us all to greater efforts, so that we can attain even greater heights in our educational accom- plishments. Let us make the move to our new school the beginning of a new era dedicated to a better school in every respect. JAMES M. RAHM, B.S., M. A. High School Principal CUBA CLUBB, B. S., M. A. Elementary Principal The six-director board of the Woodland R-4 School District is composed of Mr. Winferd Upchurch, President; Mr. Wendell Barks. Vice-President; Mr. H. Glenn Moore, Secretary; Mr. Alfred Winchester, Member; Mr. Gladys Bollinger, Member; Mr. T. H. Huskey, Jr., Member. Mrs. Pomeroy, who is Secretary to the Superintendent, serves also as Treasurer of the Board of Directors. MRS. THELMA POMEROY Secretary to Superintendent ACULTY LOUELLA JONES B.S.. 1945 S.E. Mo. Mrs. Eva Clubb. (Cooke and (Custodians Mr. Ora Welker, Mr. John Mason, Mr. Winford Brown. Although faced with the difficulties of food transportation and serving in different places, the lunchroom personnel always manage to come through in a manner deserving of praise. While some items on the menu are not always our favorites, a varied and nutritional meal is made available daily when school is in session. We are sure Mr. Welker will not be sorry to see the cold weather come next winter, knowing he will not have to struggle, as he has for the past many years, to try and maintain heat under almost impossible conditions. The old high school building always presented new problems in the almost daily repairs that were necessary. Overloaded electrical circuits, plumbing break-downs, furnace and radiator maintenance, and the many other problems kept him hopping. ENIORS WILLIAM ATWOOD F. F. A.—1,2, 3,4; Public Speaking—4.
