SCHOOL PRINCIPALS As you read and look at the Cardinal in the years to come, may the memories of Woodland School brighten your journey through life. It is my wish for you that you will be conceited enough to believe in yourself, humble enough to realize your own weaknesses, and intelligent enough to do something about them. I want to tell you how fortu- nate I think I have been to be your principal during the school year of 1961-1962. --James M. Rahm JAMES M. RAHM, High School Principal B.S., 1934, Murray State College B.S., 1941, Missouri University M.A., 1953, Peabody College

SUPERINTENDENT’S Mr. Claude Stone, Superintendent Greetings again from the same old office. And again the Cardinal Staff carries on from the same old headquarters. Some unforeseen delays and perhaps some unavoid- able circumstances have delayed the construction of our new buildings, which at this time last year we hoped would by now be well under construction. However, we expect the Yearbook staff to continue the all-out effort to provide us with an excellent book. After all, any product can be only as good as the skill of the hands that shape it, regardless of the setting or physical surroundings. Although we are still looking forward to our new buildings with eager anticipa- tion, yet we cannot afford to sit back and wait for the more favorable surroundings. The success of any enterprise, be it the publishing of a school annual or the operation of the whole school, for that matter, depends a great deal more upon the quality of the people involved than upon the physical plant. So, forgetting our dreams of a new building, now that they are about to become reality, let us have another fine Cardinal- - and another good school term. I --Claude Stone A native of Bollinger County, Mr. Stone received the AA degree at Will Mayfield College in 1929. His B.S. degree was awarded in 1937 at Southeast Mo. State College, and an M. Ed. degree was earned in 1947 at Missouri U. Mr. Stone served as President of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Associa- tion for the 1961-1962 term.
