MILDRED CHANDLER WOODLAND HIGH SCHOOL MARBLE HILL GRADE BUILDING NEW SCHOOL PLANT ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE May, 1961 Since I am so new on this jobat the Woodland schools, the invitation to write this message and to be included in the '61 CARDINAL came as a pleasant surprise. However, I find that this immediate acceptance into the school system is typical of the school and com- munity. To be gracious, to be kind, to be courteous, to be helpful-all these are simply a part of the Wood- land tradition. So, to the graduating Seniors let me again wish you God speed; may success and happiness attend each one of you as you go your separate ways. To the rest of you, I should like to invite you to join with me in a solemn pledge to bend every effort toward the end that we may have the best school year possible in 1961-1962. -Claude Stone THOMAS E. SMITH Superintendent of the Woodland R-4 Schools, he put forth much effort in the past 6 years to make our school better to attend. His efforts toward securing a new school in order to have a more promising community have been very much appreciated. The vacancy left by his resignation in April was filled by Mr. Stone. HAROLD RALPH Principal of the Woodland Senior and Junior H igh Schools for nearly 6 years, served his school, faculty, students, and community well. A friend to every student and teacher; feared by many- respected by all. Mr. Ralph was a man who will long be remembered and held in highest esteem by the many students who knew him. Yes, that's right. The Class of '61. Just for you we will recall The great big moments for us all. Our Freshman year had just begun, The class to be 1961. We thought we were big in lots of ways Until it came to initiation day, Green we were, but we did not mind, The class of '61, that’s my kind. Silly Sophomore is what they say, But we had our fun, remember the play! We reached the mark-half way. '61, we're on our way. Junior year we had a ball; Junior ploy, and the carnival We decorated for the banquet that year, Not realizing that in '61 we’d shed a tear. And then, that year, it came at last. Remembering the fun we'd had in the past, We vowed this year would be the best. We'd planned for it through all the rest. Everything imaginable, this year we sold. We did it well, determined, and bold, First one thing, then another. Each classmate to us was another brother. For four years we studied for an education. Looking forward to each vacation. Now it's over, part of the past, And we are educated-sophisticated at last. Some other time-some other place Will find us on our separate ways. But-Seniors of 1961, We'll have these MOMENTS TO REMEMBER! JUNIORS JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS-TOP ROW, Left to Right: David Teeters, Sandra Stephens, Linda Green, Ronnie Estes.
