BAND IN ACTION The all-school band, under Mr. Fluke's able direction, has made great progress in two short years. There are 40 members, most of whom are junior high students. Organ- ization began early in September and the members began immediately to practice music and marching. They played for three home football games and one at Ridge- field. At the Castle Rock game, Mae Swenson, the drum majorette, led the band in a drill and march on the field, which is pictured above. The band took part in the Christmas program by playing several carols. A pep band was organized during basketball season and it played for the last home game. The band played in the all-music assembly in March. They went to Vancouver to participate in a contest on April 26. A clarinet trio, composed of seventh graders, received a rating of excellent at a music meet in Shelton. To end the year, the band played many numbers for the Spring Music Festival. Several benefits have been given to raise money for uniforms. At the Lions benefit show on March 28, the band performed for a large audience. About one-half of the money necessary for the uniforms was raised by the end of the year.
