The moment we’ve dreamed of, hoped for and talked about has finally arrived. We’re excited, happy, and very proud of our accomplishments; however, a certain sadness lingers in our hearts. You see, amidst the joy and excitment we must now say good-bye. Down through the years, a special closeness has bonded our class together. A closeness like that which unites and strengthens a loving family. We’ve laughed and cried together; we’ve listened to and learned from one another. And together we have lifted our voices towards heaven in prayer. We’ve rejoiced in the good times as well as the bad. For without the valleys there are no mountains. And those valleys only seemed to bring us that much closer. Now as we become the Graduating Class of 1981, we are closer than ever before. As we embark on a new phase in our lives, the many memories rule our hearts and minds. It seems So hard to put into words our true feelings and emotions. It seems almost impossible to say exactly what needs to be said. In the years to come, the page upon which the words are written will age and the print will begin to fade. But in our hearts, the words and the feelings they convey will live on forever. And now to Woodland Baptist Christian School we say good-bye. However, to those with whom we’ve shared so much we find it harder to bid farewell. As we lift our voices toward heaven now we ask these things, “Lord, please walk with each of us, and when ones burdens seem to heavy to bear, reach down and share the load. Keep each of us safe and may we always be found in the center of Your will, and then on that great day, let us all be assembled back together in Thy kingdom up above.” By: Connie Jolly Class of 1981 Lisa Ann Alexander Psalm 147:5. Mrs. Harmon, Mrs. Peterson, and Miss Vance await us that year with juice, cookies, and naps, but little did we know what we would encounter in the next twelve years. At the end of the year we lost Lisa, Cathy, and Mark, but we gained Randy Bennett, Dwayne Tuggle, and Sherri Goins in the first grade. Now we began to learn all about Jane and her pet dog Spot. Lisa Alexander and Cathy Hinton decide to rejoin our class in the second grade and we also gain Mark Gough, Cindy Weaver, and Penny Bovender. This year we learn the secret to get out of class, raise your hand and to go to the restroom. Patti Lawson joins the class in the third grade but again we lost Lisa Alexander, she just can’t seem to make up her mind. As fourth grade comes around all of us girls are greatly disappointed, we were really looking forward to some new guyslbut we didn’t get any, in fact we lost one, Dwayne Tuggle. During the fifth grade Deborah Carlyle, Debbie Clagett, Janet Lasater, Connie Jolly, Robin Stevens, and Jeff Plemmons entered our class. School is now changing in many ways. We move from our old school building to a brand new one. Everyone was so excited including the teachers that it took us the rest of the year to get settled down. Tanya Alley is our only new addition to the sixth grade class. This is our last year for everyone to be in the same class, because now we are graducation into Junior-High. We gain Beth Binkley, Arnold Roope, Anita Edwards, and Kevin Hauser in the seventh grade. We went through a case of tardy slips because we were not use to changing classes in two minutes. Mark Williams decided to rejoin us in the eighth grade after a long vacation. Lisa Alexander has set Woodland’s record for entering and leaving school, because she rejoins us again in the ninth grade and decides to stay. John Lindler, Karen Mickey, and Fonda Mabe join us also. We didn’t lose or gain any students in the tenth grade until the middle of the year. Dwayne Tuggle returned after six years of absence. Some of us become eligible for our drivers license. That year Mrs. Smitherman took us on our first class trip in which we spent the night at Kure Beacb. During the eleventh grade we add two brothers and one girl to our class, Mark and Brent Wall and Karen Hatfield. In our attempt to raise money for the Junior-Senior banquet we had many options. Our bright idea of selling light bulbs burned out quickly. Finally, we are Seniors. As we view our past we see the memories that will always be in the hearts and minds of each member of the class of ‘81.’ Halloween Carnival, Senior projects, Senior play, sports, fund-raisers, Senior trip, final exams, and finally our Graduation. : By Shannon Cox Mark Gough L CLASS PROPHECY Now we look into the futures of the 1981 Graduates of Woodland Christian School. Due to her interest in hair during her Senior year, Beth Binkley, now works at Beth’s Hair Designs in New York. Poor ole Brent Wall goes bankrupt while buying $300 computers and $600 waterbeds. Cindy Weaver, is still a junior at High Point College studying to be a doctor’s aide. Her interest in photography has led Pam Hardee, into her own business. She is now the proud owner of Blurred Visions Inc. Karen Mickey becomes a missionary and goes throughout the world spreading the gospel by a WSMT bus. Kevin Hauser, after years of very hard work owns his own cattle ranch, consisting of one cow and one shovel. Due to her interest in MUDD (in high school), Penny Bovender is now a chief cosmotologist. Mark Wall’s interest in toolmaking has led him into making bathtubs, sinks, and toilets. Dawn Parks finally settles down and marries a car dealer and now has a baby girl named Monte Carlo. Karen Hatfield owns her own dress designing shop. Jeff Plemmons and Arnold Roope move to Myrtle Beach S.C. They now own Myrtle Beach Auto Parts. Phillip Link is presently “Head Hauncho’’ of the chain of Grandview Grocery stores on the east coast. After years of college, Jerry Roberts became a solar engineer. His latest design was a solar heating system for Hanes Mall. Janet Lasater finally hits it big. She gets married and moves to Alabama where she is a proud owner of a gopher farm. Life has really been good to John Lindler. After graduation, he received $100,000 from an unknown source but blew it all in one day. Patti Jo Lawson’s interest in art got her a high paying job painting gospel scenes on the sides of Karen Mickey’s WSMT bus. Cathy Hinton after long years of waiting for the right man, finally asks him to marry her. Mike Cockerham goes into his own business driving tractor trailer trucks. He now delivers basket¬ balls and fruit. Debbie Clagett is now a demolition driver. She got her experience in high school after demolishing the front end of Scott Boyer’s Monte Carlo. The once curly headed Dwayne Tuggle is now BALD! He is now a co-star on Kojack. Anita Edward’s interest in teaching has led her into teaching at the Air Force Academy. Deborah Carlyle stayed in the religious scheme and is now co-host of the PTL club. Fonda Lou Mabe is now a computer programmer. She married the owner of the company and they live in a $300,000 house. Connie Jolly has moved up in the society world. She is now modeling at Jonell Furs Ltd. The latest fashion she modeled was a short cut possum fur coat. Due to her interest in perfume, Tanya Alley now owns her own perfume company. Mark Gough married Shannon Cox. Mark went on to school leaving Shannon behind to work in the coal mines. Randy Bennett finished college to become a mechanical engineer. He is now working for the diminishing Chrysler Corp. Robin Stevens is now engaged to be married. She is a secretary for Robin’s Furs Ltd. Now Lisa Alexander has her own dog grooming salon, is happily married and has three children. Mark Williams, is now married and has his own recording company called Mark Williams’ Christian Recording Company (MWCRC). Ill 112 I 3ltt Jiftemartam ®amara Jimtttljermatt Joyful, loving, laughing, giving Bearer of a radiant light. Born athlete in body, trophies winning Boistrous by day, sleeping still at night. Cherished by all who know her, Too active to be captured by camera But never in too much a bother To love us all — sweet Tamara. Animals chasing through the grass, Chickens carried beneath her arms, But never fearing this gentle lass — Each knowing she could do no harm. So why these tears upon my cheeks? Running freely, deep-felt sobs, Because I no longer can seek Her voice saying “I love you — Uncle Bob.” Our questioning arms to God we part And even shake our fists in deep misery But hearing within the silence of our hearts His Spirit whispering — so sincerely — “I love her too — Far more than you. In my arms now safe For each of you she waits.” We rest in peace now secure that all is well Knowing that truth is all our Lord can tell.
