Transforming rhe bond room into o cozy one room fifth story New York aparrmenr, the directors, octors and crew opened BAREFOOT on Novem- ber 14 and 15 ro o full house borh nights. For two nights, two newlyweds pacified rhe overly protective mother-in-law, Ethel Dante The attic neighbor, Victor Velosco odded to the hilarity, ond interspersed among these zany main chorocters — a supporring telephone man and a delivery boy interjecred their comments regarding the agonizing six flight climb to the oport- ment. The comedy received standing ova- tions each performance in spite of uplonned actor challenges such as o stuck door, dropped lines, and knichi fighrs. During Februory, dance and vocal work- shops began for the prospective cost of the spring musical — WEST SIDE STORY Pessimis- tic onlookers teased, You ' ll never moke Ir! Warming up before rehearsals, ocrors rronsformed rhemselves inro charocrers with either a Brooklyn or a Puerto Ricon accent. WEST SIDE opened to sold out audiences on May 6 ond closed on May 8. As o modern day version of Shokespeore ' s RO- MEO AND JULIET, WEST SIDE presenred the street conflict existing between whites and Puerro Ricons in New York and the resultant tragedy when Puerro Ricon Maria and American Tony fall in love. Wairing for cues ro enter, cost members grew nervous — Whar if I lose my ac- cenr? What if I blank out on the donee? As soon OS they rromped on srage, they forgot the what ifs and produced a show deserved of rhe standing ovations. In spire of costume problems, sore throats, pulled muscles, lost voices and a hole in the stage, the cost felt a glowing sotsifoction from do- ing o show as difficult as WEST SIDE, they hod met the tounted challenge of You ' ll never moke it ' They, indeed, hod cap- tured the limelight WEST SIDE STORY | THE JETS: ( if( Todd Drown Tony Steve Swing Action Andy Sipe Arab Dill Smith Doby John Kyle Former Snow boy Kevin Shull Dig Deal Jel McKinley Diesel Kevin Morshous Any body b Korhi York THEIR GIRLS: Velmo Michelle Fischer Grozieiio MorciQ n.osene Lynn Engle.
