They have approximately 95% recovery of the rockets they launch, judged by Mr. Miller. A contest is held each year, based on who can accumulate the most points through- out that year. Points are based on the accuracy of the landing point, taking into account the weight, the type of engine, and other factors. Mr. Miller and Mr. Etzler sponsor the Rocket Club. Nancy Ehle has been named a delegate from Indiana to participate in the 1970 4-H teen Caravan program. The program is designed to promote world understanding. It will provide an opportunity for Nancy to live and share in the work and leisure time activities with two host families in Japan. The 4-H Teen Caravan, now in its fourth year, is a program for sixteen to nineteen year old 4-H ' ers from all parts of the United States. In Indiana the delegates are chosen after a series of personal interviews at Purdue Univer- sity. Ten young people from Indiana have been chosen as 1970 good-will ambassadors to Den- mark, Norway, Austria, Spain, Italy, Costa- Rica, Jamacia and Japan. Country assignments are made by the National 4-H Foundation in Washington, D.C. Nancy will leave on June 20 to live with two farm families in Japan, sharing a bit of America with them and then return home late in August to share her experiences with others here in the U.S. Nancy is seventeen years old. She is major- ing in secretarial and office procedures and home economics. She has been a 4-H member for seven years and a member of the Junior Leaders ' Club for two years. Good Luck to Nancy on her trip. Hard Work Put Into Pow Wow The student body always looks forward to the Pow Wow, which is printed every two weeks. These students who are on the newspaper staff and who are editors and managers work very hard to put out a paper which includes articles for everyone. Fashion items, interviews, puzzles, and sports news are just a few of the interesting articles found in the Pow-Wow. FIRST ROW: Editors- -Rene e Watson, Judy Fulton. We, the co-editors of the 1970 Arrow wish to use this space to thank our advisor, Mrs. Wetter, for all the help and time she gave to us during the many fun, but trying times when working on the yearbook. Many thanks also go to Kam Hilgemann, Kathy Stopher, Cindy McKeeman, Chris Martin, and Vicki Pautsch who served as copywriters. Appreciation goes to Cheryl Guillaume, Pat Schlink, and Carol Gevers, who managed the financing of the yearbook. Mr. Pier son, a very important photographer for the yearbook, deserves much of our gratitude, we greatly appreciated his dependability . We considered it an honor to be chosen co -editors of the Arrow and found the job very interesting and fun, as well as often exasperating. We did our best to turn out a yearbook that would suit the majority of the students. We sincerely hope this book will bring back many pleasant memories to each and every stu- dent here at Woodlan School . Warriors Got Spirit The greatest enthusiasm ever was shown by the cheerblock this year . Everyone worked very hard to make a successful basketball season. Meetings were held in the evening so that the cheerblock could learn new cheers, and a special Spirit Commit- tee met several times to coordinate actions with the cheers. Even some of the adults got into the act. Of course Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Reifsnei- der spent their time in helping to organize and sponsor the cheerblock. Mrs. Lenga- cher and Mrs. Rhodes also donated their time on the cheerblocks ' berets, and new sweatshirts were purchased . Our basketball team worked the hardest of all to make the ' 69 - ' 70 basketball season successful, as they ended up the victors in more ways than one. This made the cheer- block happier and even more proud to support the Woodlan Warriors . Our Guys Back the Warriors In its second year the Boys ' Cheerblock did a wonderful job of boosting Woodlan ' s spirit and cheering our team to many, many victories. Lee Powell (left), our Warrior mascot, and Wade StoUer (right), who serves as his substitute, stood looking very proud and powerful over our basketball games. The managers were in charge of washing and packing the uniforms, provid- ing the boys with towels, helping with first aid, etc. They were all rookies, and each did a fine job . The mighty Woodlan Warriors led by Coaches Bill Schafer and Elmer Strautman ended a great season with a record of i9--4. Adding a little spice to our season was a county tourney vic- tory and a great fight in the Fort Wayne Sectional. As in previous years senior, John Kemmeyer led the squad and ended his great prep career with I, 133 points. He was the only unanimous choice of the coaches for the all -confer- ence team . Latin Students Present Banquet The Latin Banquet was held on April 3, 1970, in the cafeteria, and enter- tainment was provided in the gym. The Latin stu- dents gave a play entitled Show Down at the Roman Forum , written by Bruce Graves . Many teachers attended the banquet, as well as former Latin stu- dents , The first year Latin students acted as slaves and the second year stu- dents represented the dom- inating Patrician Class A race consisting of pushing grapes with their noses was played by the slaves . Several slaves were auctioned off to teachers who cared to buy one . BE i l |i 1 1 1 Parents Are Honored Parents ' night was a first for Woodlan this year On February 13, 1970, the parents of the basketball team were honored . The coaches ' wives were honored, also, and re- ceived corsages . The boys wanted to show their appreciation to their parents for their encouragements and pa- tience during the season by presenting to their mothers a corsage and a boutonnier to their fa- thers . We also found, as the program progressed that the boys have more affection in their hearts for their mothers than they ' d like to have us believe . K ' ' i ' l ' - ' H ■[ HI IHi MG H L .
