Composed of fifty junior high and high school students, the band has been di- rected for two years by Theodore Taylor. Activity has characterized the band during the past year. An excellent rating was earned in the NISBOVA contest at Elkhart in the spring, and in October the band participated in the NISBOVA marching contest at North Side High School. Several members of the band gained recognition in the local Solo and Ensemble contest in Fort Wayne, and two, Elaine Armstrong and Carol Winzeler, were privileged to enter the state competition at Indianapolis. Constituting some of the summer activities was the band's participation in several parades and fairs. There was the Mermaid Festival at North Webster with Sandy Murphy representing the organization as our candidate for Queen of the Lakes, the Van Wert Peony Festival, the Lion's State Convention Parade in Fort Wayne, the Auburn Street Fair, where out of a field of forty bands the Woodburn band received third place, and the local Legion Days. In the fall the Woodburn band proudly led the Woodburn Day's parade and later represented our community at the annual Fort Wayne United Funk Kickoff parade. Superior players from the Allen County bands compose the Clinic Band which gives several spring concerts. Chosen to be in this from our band were Carol Winzeler, Bill Gordon, Ianice Coomer, Pat Bruns, Peggy Thompson, Elaine Armstrong, and Kathy Copenhaver. Four of these members were selected to play first chair in their section. In the past year Woodburn has been proud of its band, and under Mr. Taylor, it will be a justifiable pride. Q

This year, for the first time, we have a selected chorus composed of fifty mem- bers and directed by T. D. Taylor. On December 16, the chorus, along with the senior and junior bands, junior choir and special groups presented a Christmas concert. In accord' with the Christmas sea- son we recorded a tape of carols which was played over the Lincoln Tower. Then on Christmas Day our chorus presented a half-hour program over station WOWO. Our chorus participated in the Allen County Choral Festival at Leo on March 27. Our individual numbers were Onward Christian Soldiers and Mutual Admiration Society. We also took part in the Spring Concert and the Baccalaureate Service. Our accompanists this year have been Charlotte Burchardt and Carol Winzeler.
