I Xl wb '4 t 4 x The faces of Woodhaven High School are many and varied. As Freshmen and Sophomores, our faces were eager and enthusiastic, showing the innocence of newcomers. As Jun- iors, our faces were filled with wonder as we found ourselves growing up, understanding and learning more and more every day. Now, as Seniors, our faces are full of pride as we go to meet the world with hope and courage. There will linger forever in the mirror of your mind the few years spent at WHS. To make this image brighter the Arrow staff, through the 1977 edition of the ARROW, has attempted to portray in pictures and words the faces of Woo- dhaven High School as they reflect you, the student body. As the years go by, your part in this book will grow more and more precious. If you should in spirit, even once relive your times at Woodhaven High School, then we will consider our purpose accomplished and our yearbook a success. So now, as a token of the spirit of the Class of 1977, we proudly present our REFLECTIONS ef A ,im - + . vizfgm uv.: WL-A Y g QAM My ,Q -at my 15 ,,-U 'T,,. 1 ily if . 4 x W , I ' J ..,, 4 , . 1 X Il I 9 ff f 'A 1 W 1 K gl .-.J ,S I A 1 I VJ, , 33, 1-:A -2 rf!! To help start the festivities, a pep rally was held during school hours in the school gym. Its purpose was to get the spectators enthused about the happenings of homecoming. The sopho- more class upset the rally by winning the traditional Peace Pipe and also the purple and white award. The strongest class proved to be the juniors as they won the tug-of-war. The student body worked day-in and day-out preparing the floats for the parade and half-time judging. They ran into many complications in the process of building Cand in some cases rebuildingj, but the seniors proved to be tops in the area of float building. The winning float was Frosted Trojan Flakes following the theme Breakfast of Champions. Other floats included Milton the Toaster built by the freshmen, Toocan Sam sophomores and Tony the Tiger built by the junior class. Everyone got a preview of the floats as they paraded down Van Horn Road from Hall Road, led by the band. Although the game was lost by a score of 56-6, the spirit was still evident. The Warriors went on to play a strong game. The hero of the evening was Rick Conz, who caught the pass which scored the only touchdown for the Warriors. The highlight of the weekend was the homecoming dance with music by Comstock Load. Corrine Callaway who was crowned queen the night before, and her court including Dunne' Grahn, Pat Johnson, Lynn Pascuzzi, Donna Richard- son, and Linda Tramel, reined over the dance. The evening brought a memorable close to the homecoming festivities. Q15 Barb Tillman and Regina Bently leading the band. C25 Sophomores show their spirit. December brought the Christmas program and the dedi- cation of the new auditorium. In May the band presented its first variety show with several band members presenting a wide variety of music, songs, dance, acts, skits, etc. The big event of the year for the band came in late May. They were invited by Walt Disney World to take part in a parade down Main Street in Magic Kingdom. In June came a parade for the Brownstown Township Sesquicentennial and the band banquet. All in all, the year was a total success for the band and we congratulate them. Q13 The band's Christmas program and the dedication of the new auditorium. Many twisted ankles, sore legs, and frozen fingers were the results of the ski weekend to Boyne Mountain. The Ski Club had money raising projects such as selling fruit cakes, a 50-50 raffle, and working at Great Scott Supermar- ket. The money raised went towards the ski trips, and the weekend trip. The girls ended their dual meet season with an 11-3 record and took a second place in the Metro-West League. Then six of the members qualified for the Class B State Championships, they are: Linda Tramel, Annette Holaski, Heather Hollingsworth, Cheryl Marth, Denise Sigler, and Jenny Kendall. Not only did the team improve as a whole but each individual showed great improvement. The co-captains were Annette Holaski, and Jenny Kendall. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Kosowski who gave freely of her time and effort in leading the team to a victorious season, and to Linda Dicks for her miraculous abil- ity to take splits. The girls worked hard to reach their achievements, and they deserve it, Congratulations Girls! C13 The team waits at poolside. C21 Linda Tramel does an inward dive. It is for high school students who are seeking a differ- ent way of learning. It is a group of students and teachers who together make their own school lunches, clean their own school building after school hours and learn together as one group. Along with the regular Govern- ment, English, Science and Social Studies classes they find time to make their own kites, plan their own field trips and still learn how to get along with one another. In the years to come, hopefully the Alternative Educa- tion will expand and become a bigger part of Woodhaven. 5.5 I70 1, tx 41 ?f-fi 'if -. .aw-P s. L A BIG SUCCESS W : -..,,.. The invocation was offered by the Rev. John Leo Phalen. As an added attrac- tion, Seniors Dave Martinez, Diane Ewing and Cathy Mcliachran sang the class song, We've Only Just Begun. The evening's commencement address was given by Mr. Mark Wegienka, former superintendent of the Woodhaven School District. Following the ceremonies, the graduates, with diplomas in hand, greeted each other in the foyer of the auditorium with mixed emotions. Some crying, some laughing, all giving warm embraces to one another.
