Because of our six pitchers, Barry Mathis doing the splits to catch the ball on first base, and all the other excellent players, our boys placed second in the city tournament. The outfield was not the only place that showmanship appeared, however. The majority of the players on the team could hit the ball any- where on the field they wished, and even the less skilled came through with flying colors when the odds were down. Our team was a very versatile one. Much of this was due to the coaching of C. E. Garrett. There was not a soft spot on the field. Every player manned his position superbly. It was a very good year, and it looks even better for next year. THE BASEBALL TEAM First row: Steve Canong. John Talley, Mike Turpin, Warren Webb. Mitch Campbell.
