Twelve long years are brought to a elose . . . years of trials and struggles for many . . . also years filled with cherished and joyful memories . . . the First Graduating Class of Wooddale High School in l970 . . . were those tears in the eyes of our bitter enemies, the juniors, at graduation . . . there were many tears in our departing seniors' eyes that evening . . . for many this will he goodbye . . . to Wooddale . . . to friends who will go their different ways this fall . . . this would seem to he the end. i

A Time For Dedzcatwn As Wooddale achieved the status of a real high school this year with its first graduating class, the staff of the Cardinal felt it only-fitting that the first dedication of the yearbook be to the one who had guided the young school successfully through these last three turbulent and trying years. From the time Wooddale opened in 1967, and even before, our principal, Mr. D. Winton Simmons worked relentlessly to secure the best for our school. He is a truly dedicated man, faithful to the goals of educa- tion, yet always conscious of the needs of individuals. During his three years as chief of Wooddale, he has guided us ever forward toward the many accomplish- ments we have won in the fields of scholarship, athletics, human relations, and extra-curricular activities. This is our principal -this is Mr. Simmons, a friend to all, facul- ty and students alike, a busy man. Yet he is never too busy to chat with a student, lend a helpful hand with Shake and bakew for the Latin banquet, or to study ways and means to improve the physical and spiritual needs of Wooddale. It is with a deep sense of appreciation that we the staff, on behalf of the entire student body, dedicate this book to you, Mr. Simmons, May your days at Wooddale be many to give to all who come after us the heritage you so freely gave to us.
