The Race Is On With the dawn of track season came the fa- miliar sound of Coach Donald shouting, Lift up those legs boys - get those feet in the airf' But that is all it took to send our Wooddale team rac- ing for the top prizes. We've got a fine hunch of boys this yearf' quoted Coach Donald, and he could never have been more right. It is not possible to list the hon- ors and ribbons that they won. Contrary to everyone's thoughts, they did not have a steak dinner at the end of that mile run, only a proud school and a very happy coach. These are the boys who run the longest, leap the highest, and show their agility. They are the cross country runners. Cross Country is exactly how it sounds. They run across open country or around buildings, or on all sorts of other tracks. It takes more than a fast runner. It takes a coordinated runner, one who can step in a hole and not fall down. And Wooddale had runners just like that. Coach Donald claimed that they were the best in town, and then the boys went out and proved it. Congratulations! 98
