DEDICATION ‘Fourscore and seven years ago . . The man to whom this book is dedicated is not merely an instructor, but an educator. In spite of the fact that this thoughtful and sincere person has opinions on many subjects, he has never tried to impose his judgments upon us. Rather, in an impartial way, he has taught us to make our own decisions. His warm and effective manner has kept his subject, history, from seeming like a chronological list of events; instead, it is more like a story of human failures and achievements. That we are all an integral and participating part of this story is perhaps his greatest lesson. In his unobtrusive manner he has been the force behind many of our worthwhile endeavors. He has acted as our class advisor. He has patiently and unselfishly devoted much of his time and energy to many of our extracurricular activities. Although we delighted in making him blush and made him the target of numerous practical jokes, our respect for him was intensified by the manner in which he accepted and tolerated our foolishness. His example of modest competence is an inspiration to us all. His greatest quality, however, is his boundless faith and trust in us, his students. It is because of these qualities that we have chosen to dedicate this, the 1960 Warrior, to Mr. Edgar Buck. ‘According to the New York Times . . .” 5
