All plans for school activities are taken to the Stu- dent Council. Here they are discussed and the better plans are quite often put into effect. Student Council sees to the distribution of student bodyfunds. The class representatives, elected each fall by their own class members, are the go-betweens, between the class and the Student Council. The Student Council promotes Home- coming and Parents Day. lt also assists the G.A.A. with the Valentine Dance. Along with these school activities it is also an active member of the Capitol Con- ference Council. Student body elections are conducted by the Student Council. All student body officers must be in the top half of their class and the President and Vice Pres- ident must be in the senior class during the year they serve. For the i956-57 school year the Student Council put out a Student Hand- book. This handbook came in very handy for all those in school. ln the handbook are listed the maior rules of the school, all special activities, names of teachers and their subjects, and favorite songs and yells of the school. The last event of the school year is the annual school picnic. This is the finale of a year of hard work by the Stu- dent Council and they do all they can to make it a big celebration. The WIRELESS is published bi-weekly and is a member of the Oregon Scholastic Press. 'The iournalism class spent the first six weeks studying the fundamentals of putting out a paperp then they spent the rest of the year putting out the papers. As the deadline approached, the students often found themselves staying after school so that' the paper will be out on time. The editor and assistant editor are elected by the class and they appoint the other sub- editors. The iobs are switched around so that everybody gets a chance at the different jobs. Clarke Pickering Beverly Bubak Secretary Treasurer 66444406 15 l'm a senior now but, l remember the first day l walked through the front doors of Woodburn High. lt seemed there was so 'much ahead of me that a small chill of fear went up my spine. My freshman year was full of fun as we top- ped the rest of the school with our sponge throw at the Letterman Carnival. May Day found our class represented by Wilma Hansen and Joanne Barry, who were prin- cesses. At the award assembly four rocks received letters for their athletic ability. New confidence was discovered in my sophomore year. We sponsored a sock- hop at noon and a pep assembly in which each one of us took part. l found myself working on a twirp week which was the first one at Woodburn High School, spon- sored, of course, by our class. Judy Schmid and Beverly Bubak represented our class as princesses at May Day. Suddenly it was my iunior year. And with the prestige of being an upper- classman came such worries as term pa- pers, the class play and the iunior-senior prom. The class play Our Hearts Were Young and Gay was quite successful. Carole Foster was elected Homecoming princess of the first Homecoming at Wood- burn. Joanne Barry was selected queen of the Valentine's Dance. Moonlight Sere- nade, the Junior-senior prom, was the big event of our high school year. We closed the year with May Day at which Beverly Bubak and LaVerne Ficek were our princesses. Senior days will long be a memory to me. We started the year with a car wash to earn money for the first Christ- mas Ball, Winter Wonderland . In Novem- ber we elected Queen Dennis Martin and Crown princess Juanita Moffett to reign over Homecoming activities. The senior class play Man Alive was given in the Spring. The first big event of the year was homecoming. Donna Colburn was selectezl to represent our class as homecoming princess. As Sophomores we were more interested in school activities and took more part in putting them on. ln January we sponsored Twirp Week which turned out to be quite a success. Toyland was the theme of the three day event which was climaxed by the Twirp Week dance on Saturday night. As the year came to o close, even though we en- joyed being Sophomores, we looked forward to the time when we would be Upperclassmen. Pres, Nims u V. p,-es. Wulf S C Rep. Sterling Sec.
