Through it, the students can work with the faculty and administration for the things they want done at school. The Council consists of the Student body president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, yell queen, song queen, at least two representa- tives from each class. The activities of the Student Council this year included sponsoring Homecoming, Parent's Day, Exchange Assembly with Silverton, sponsoring sock hops, and worked with the GAA on the Val- entine's Dance. Various problems involving students and teach- ers are discussed in Student Council meetings, and with expert guidance the students are able to solve them themselves. The Student Council plans a student handbook to be available next year. Fl Q pg 5 7 Z- 'l .'--Mn F 5?+vWfvE3.R7l.it NQ?vWQt Q W is G 1 Wwmmm , fi , j3L!fP U' M! L ip 16f'fW .l 7754? These are the principles of the Nation- - al Honor Society and the four essential qualities of their. progress. This organization has a keystone and flaming torch as their em- blem. They are symbolized by the letters C.S.L.S. They strive to make their ideals the ideals oftheir school. An initiation of new members who have a high scholastic rating of a three point or higher is held in the spring. After a Junior or Senior qualifies scholastically, the faculty then votes approval of their membership using as their criteria, Character, Leadership, and Service. Membership is limited to not more than 15 per cent of the Senior Class. The Wireless is published by a hard- working group of Juniors and Seniors advised N 'by Mrs. Croisan. The students gather all the information, write and type the articles and put the paper out every other Friday. The C l Q C U S Wireless contains seven pages of juicy in- formation ranging from engagement announce- y W00 UBUR N X ments to birthdays and Pen Portraits of vari- Lv- ous Seniors. There are students' write-ups of football games, contests, classes and social events. Poems, jokes, and stories often appear as additional features. News from other schools in the Capitol Conference is printed along with reports of club activities and letters to the Dear Bulldog . New students are interviewed and girls' purses have even been emptied to provide the kind of news teen-agers like to read. The Wireless Staff gains valuable experience and at the same time has a good time issuing this newspaper. Since there is no journalism class at Woodburn High, nearly all the work is done outside of school, during noon hours and after school. Unlike many school papers, the Wireless is passed out to everyone free of charge. So, if you like to know the very latest, be wise, read the Wireless. Ed. They also sponsor a booth at the Letterman's Carnival. Their biggest activity is sponsoring the Christmasdecora- tion contest iwon this year by the senior girls who decorated Room 8 under the leadership of Mrs. Nelson, their winning theme being Christmas Around the Worldni. The club furnished Christmas trees for each of the high school rooms as well as for Lincoln and Washington Grade Schools. This recipe was sent to the State F.H.A. which was put in a F.H.A. recipe book. The girls not only did things in Woodburn but attended many con- ventions. Several delegates attended a F.H.A. district conference at Canby and Mrs. Ferguson and two delegates went to a state con- vention in Corvallis. The Woodburn Ff.H.A. was invited to a Silver Tea at St. Paul. Our Group also entertained several clubs from other schools. Pres, Armstrong V. Pres, Ostrom Sec, Avin ff? w.....n-0 -fvwffx.. This is the largest chorus in the history of Woodburn High School. The eighty-six voices under the direction of Miss Joann Meyer presented the annual Christmas concert. ln addition to the chorus there are many smaller choral groups such as a trio, quartets, sextets, etc. performing for the student body and community. Because of the large group, the boys and girls have one day a week 2 E for separate work and three days a week for the full chorus. This makes it possible for a boy and girl glee club. The Girls Clee attended the State Music Contest. The members of the Chorus are as follows: ALTOS lst Row: Peggy Schuh, Geraldine Armstrong, Janice Ostrom, Dianne Obrist, Joan Jackson, Dixie McCormick, Carol Livesay, Norain McMurry, Linda Workman. 2nd Row: Arlene Ficek, Florence Rice, Marguerite Enyart, Sharon Johnson, Judy y Phillipsen, Janice Reiling, Ruby Gordon, Karen Phillipsen, 3rd Row: Betty Eder, . We, the class of '56, who are about to leave a part of our life be- hind forever, are a group of classmates who have worked together for four years. As in every group we have had disagreements, bad times and good ones. We also share many memories. When we first entered the doors of Woodburn lligh School as freshmen we had only one thing in common. Our newness, our in- experience was the thing that held us together. As the years passed on and we became seniors we had formed new ties of friendship and share experiences. We learned to value each other, and we know now that these years will always be precious to us. lle who labors, reaps, and the class of '56 en- joyed the fruits of their labor on the night of the annual junior-senior prom. The theme was Neptune's Court and the dancers floated through mazes of coral and strange sea creatures. Ten members of our class organized the Future Teachers of America in Woodburn. Eight seniors helped Woodburn take second place in bas- ketball.
