S Wohiscan Woodbum High School Woodburn, Oregon 1953 To those who believe in the future progress of Woodbum High School Dear Friends, September 18th was the date of the first television reception in Woodburn. The innovation of this modem miracle of communication has and will change many of our ways of thinking and much of our way of living. This is progress. Progress in our material culture must be accompanied by progress in learn- ing to live in such a world. Our schools, as centers of learning, are dedicated to this task and to the future of our society. Accordingly, those responsible for education in the Woodburn Public Schools have adopted the following philo- sophy, in brief: We believe that it is the responsibility of the schools to assist the child in the following manner: 1. To become a contributing member in a democratic society through home, church, school and community. 2. To grow according to his capabilities. 3. To gain an understanding of responsibility to other peoples of the world. Keep this in mind as you view Woodburn High School via TV. Miss History and Mr. Will Music: When You and I Were Rocks Scene: A senior class sitting on stage awaiting the reading of the will. Two of them are reminicing. Miss History: Geel Do you remember how scared you were the first day you and the other 85 freshman walked into the auditorium of the old high school and sat waiting for your instructions on what to do? Mr. Will: Yes, and then not too long after that we had a meeting of the freshman class and chose Bob Withers as president, Delmar Wolf was Vice-President, Dollie Cummings was Secretary, and Willard Thompson was Treasurer. Miss History: Those class meetings were fun weren't they? Remember when we had the meeting and decided to have a school dance? The dance was a lot of fun but I think the annual picnic topped everything. Good old Blue Lakel Boyl Wasn't it funny when Bob and Willard tipped over their canoe? What an appetite boating can create. Mr. Will: Our .sophomore year was much more exciting not having to go to the old school but all 69 of us coming to a snappy new one. Miss History: We didn't have too much luck that year did we--going in the hole on that skate at Kaiser Holler Drome? Mr. Will: Yea, but do you remember we did pretty well on that box social we had. We did well enough to have a swell picnic at Blue Lake again. Everyone was merry and happy until Sam lost Janice's hat. 11 Miss History: Do ya remember ou' play the Show Off . lt sure was good even though it put us hack a little but we dldn't mind. Then came our prom. I'd say lt was the best ever put on even though I am a little pre- judiced. Resume' was the theme of the prom it took a lot of work but it was a lot of fun. Mr. Wlll: Our senla' year , was the most heavenly. We put on our play the Night of January l6 , It really set me on the edge of my clnir to see whether Janice was golng to be pronounced guilty cr not guilty. I was sure glad when the verdict was not guilty. Miss History: Then one evenlng the teachers had a meeting and chose Dollie Cummings as the one to have the citizenship award. We musn't forget the gals that got their spa.rk1er's this year Lois Hamen, Joyce Graham, and Patty Reynolds alias Luffman.
