The first, a two-story, eight room, frame building on the sight of Lincoln Grade Schoolg the second, a brick building, now Washington School on Lincoln streetg the third, our new building. The progress shown in the construction of these buildings marks the developing interest and pride of the community in our educational system. We have just completed our first year in our new school plant. It is quite fitting that we should dedicate this 1951 yearbook, the Wohiscan, to the men and women who have made up the citizenship of this community during this half century and ol... me qijs p it if LLL Woodburn High School 1891-1915 have so generously provided for the education of their children. With this dedication goes our deep appreciation for the privilege of completing our Highschool career in our new building. 1 2 Woodburn High School 1916-1950 ,XM N.,.,,h Woodburn High School 1950 able f Title Page Diff 5 7125 Dedication Wohiscan Staff Administration Faculty Student Council Senior Class Senior Class Will Senior Baby Daze Classes G. The Library Club, as a service organization, has the important function of assisting with the many details that make for good organized library service. Some girls worked at the circulation desk this year, while others checked in new magazines and helped with the processing of new books. Some advanced members helped with minor reference questions, library displays, book selection and cataloging. The girls had a Wiener roast in May, and assisted with the complete inventory of the school library collection. lv fv-'r S 2 fm gli! yi! ln' A 'Dn1nn'f' , lien S' A kv Q! 1 If .N f A-ffxfj Ox , , .. The addition of three majorettes was another step in the Band's march of improvement, The Band did much to promote school spirit by playing for sports events and other activities. The five concerts given during the year were: A joint concert with a string trio, two concerts in conjunction with the Gervais High School' band, a spring concert, and one at the Woodburn Boy's School. This year, the Western District Music contest was held at Woodburn, in which a number of schools participated. l 'Ak Q 5, 9 - Z This year the band elected the following officers: Loretta Wilson, managerg Sam Van Ai-sdale, vice-presidentg and Paul Edwards, secretary- treasurer. The majorettes added much to the pageantry and glamour of the band, Although they were a re- cent addition, their skill rapidly increased. They led the band in all parades and demonstrated their skill at sports events. Left to right: Donnieta Mills, Claudia Hayes, captaing and Joanne Schmid. . Barbour Buffcfgg Bulletin 19506 Read these pages and you will see, just how busy a good school can be. . SEPTEMBER .l gs Q .. t 'G For School to start was our y- l , one wish, The girls started looking for some poor fish. Boys from Hood River came I just for sport, They won on the gridiron not on the court. 1 Surprise in store on Monday morn, fb For during the night the safe door had been shorn. The rooting section at jam- boree included my big mouth, If I hadn't been there to yell, we wouldn't have beat the South. Football started with a treat, We went to Canby and they got beat. 6. We traveled to Silverton, 6 they saw red, We proved our team was Wheaties fed. 13 13 17 Z0 27 OCTOBER We visited the Angels and clipped their wings, Bet they're still hearin' the birdies sing. The stands roared, Yell Leaders did chants, As our Bulldogs took a hunk of the Pioneer's pants. Aiter the ganse turned out so great, The whole school enjoyed the Home Room 6 skate. F. F. A. initiation tonight greenbands galore, New Members wondering what's next in store. To Estacada we traveled, put up a good fight, just couldn't understand the ref's oversight. We-'re back in the groove. the Indians we scalped, 'Course you know me. I pitched in and halped. NOVEMBER We welcomed back grads, old faces were seen, Andy Rice was the King, Sharon Fitch, Homecoming Queen. 'Twas a sad day for the Bulldogs, we were high on the wagon, To be brought down a peg, by our rival the Dragon. Our second Assembly program, no better music could you find, We enjoyed the annual visit of the Oregon School for the Blind. A breath of old Spain, in gay Spanish dance -- Made us stop and think---how would be France? Oo-la-la. Freshmen reception, Seniors' delight, Must have been bad, next day no o rooks in sight. DECEMBER Basketball's upon us, our first game we played, Cardinals wished from their nests they's not strayed. Concert was swell, members nice sight. When they wore their uniforms of Blue and White. Farmers fight, F. F. A. Smoker, Another knockout! Call Doc. Croaker. Football players missing, don't need a notary, just being honored by members of Rotary. Senior class play, Torch- bearers , was given, Contained lots of fun--Man that's livin'! Molalla Jamboree preview of what's in store, Lots of good games and ex- citement galore. Mothers dined team, did they ever eat, As you all know--home cookin's Chorus performed, audience entranced, But what I liked best was when Bells danced. School dismissed for Xmas vacation, Santa ClauS's visit our anticipation. Of course we won, when we played Stayton, We were gone with the ball while they were still waitin! 53,1 WQJ. 1 H JAN UARY Angels were hosts, Bull- dogs the guests, Bulldogs defeated in this conquest. Standard our goal uncon- ditionally we won. Now watch our smoke-for we've just begun. By now they should know fPioneers' I meanj That our fighting Bull- dogs aren't so green. At Estacada we played, at Estacada we won, We'll play'em again and play'em for fun. Dallas roared in, left us in their dust, Our motto now-- beat Dallas or bust . And then we played Canby, Eureka we won, Can't understand why they don't enjoy the fun. Sails were hoisted on the SS Bulldog as the Boosters put out to sea, Football team and coach, when asked on approach, said 'twas no quiltin' bee. F. F. A. busy, Banquet for sure, No worry for crowds, Turkeys were lure. Molalla lost on our home court, We'll also beat 'em on their home court. We played Brer Silverton, we put up a fight, How could we know the Foxies were bright. Angels flew here on wings so bright, They won--but not 'til a dragout fight. F EBR UARY Sandy came here. the lights weren't too good, that's the reason we lost, that understood? Sweethearts were honored at Valentine dance, If you hadn't heard of Coun- cil ' you missed your chance. The Rangers came, the Rangers went, In the Bulldogs morale they left a dent. The food was fine, so the Faculty said, That's what they all say when Home Ec. fed. We played the Dragons in their home lair, Our might efforts were left in their care. Ah, Canby again, a victory we won, They'd all fouled out when we'd just begun. Speech Tournament begins, so does the fun, We hope to come home with honors we've won. Molalla copped a win when we weren't lookin'- But even at that it took some tookin'. The teachers frolicked while on homework we slaved, just shows to go ya how our school life is paved. 'Twas a hard game we fought with Willamette frosh, A few more minutes and we'd have won by gosh. Sophomores sponsored skate. and we must confess, We didn't make a million.. but the fun was the best. Played Silverton here, had overtime, too, And up stepped Odgers and looped it right thru. MARCH Swiss Yodeler was here with stories to tell, What I liked best was the way he could yell. joint concert enjoyed fun was had, With Gervais and Woodburn can that be bad? Basketball Tourney starts, basketballs fly, Sure we had representatives, the team from Woodburn High Lettermen Carnival. lots of fun, Everyone enjoyed it--blues on the run. APRIL Good looking Bob Bradford gave girls a thrill, But when he impersonated that was better still. Lewis-Clark Choir our guest for awhile, They really sang those songs in good style. junior Play given- Little Women it's theme, Now there's a cast with lots on the beam. State Convention for members of F. B. L. A., We'1l put on entertainment to show them 2-ul way. Our last National Assembly, Chime Ringers of fame, They make chime ringing look like a game. Bands and Choirs vied for renown, 'l'here's one thing for sure. the best copped the crown. MAY Hail Queen Opal. her num- ber of friends is great. For our Queen of May shows friendliness outstanding trait. juniors honor seniors with swell spring Prom, Make seniors happy it's Woodburn they're Irom. The Senior Class gathers before the great day, To hear speakers advise and help them on their way. After years of hard work our success is sure. We've won our diplomas-- school love will endure.
