EUGENE ANDREWS Vice-President ED LEAVY President OPAL McCOY Secretary Senior Class History On, September 21, 1943, eighty-one students entered the doors of W. H. S. for the first time. As Freshmen they chose for officers Norman Sergeant, president, Arnold Bigler, vice-president, Iake Erwert, secretary, Marion Shaw, treasurer, and Donna Hollenbeck, interclass rivalry chairman. Miss Delight Heath and Mr. Newell Morgan were the advisers. The main events of the year were the Senior- Rook reception and a Rook picnic. ln the fall of '44 they elected the following officers: Bob Pillsbury, president, Marion Shaw, vice-president, Ray Dryden, secretary, Mary Helsel and L. F. Clark, interclass rivalry chairmen, Daris Olson and Marilyn McLaughlin, Student Council representatives. Miss Heath was again their ad- viser. During the year they had a party, and the annual class picnic. As Iuniors the class of '47 chose as their officers Bob Corey, president, Bill Tremaine, vice-president, Mary Helsel, secretary and treasurer, Eileen Hage- nauer, and L. F. Clark, interclass rivalry chairmen, Anita Miller and Norman Sergeant, Student Coun- cil representatives. Miss Schultz was their adviser. They sponsored a skate during the year and highlighting the year were the class picnic and the very successful Iunior class play, Almost Summer, and the Iunior-Senior Prom. The graduating class of '47 elected Ed Leavy, president, Gene Andrews, vice-president, Opal McCoy, secretary, Evelyn Thomas, treasurer, Paula Walter and LeRoy Copeland, interclass rivalry chairmen, Donna Uphoff, Don McNulty and Ray Dryden, Student Council representatives. Miss Schultz and Mr. Burnett were their advisers. Highlights of the year were the Senior play, A Date with Iudy, the Iunior-Senior Prom and a class picnic. The annual student body play, The Lucky Ac- cident, was given in honor of Queen Evelyn I and her court. On the evening of Iune 5, 1947, the Seniors received their diplomas and bade farewell to Woodburn High School. The class was proud of the seven boys who left school to enter the service. They were L. F. Clark, Rodney Polly, William Tremaine, William Sterling, Iames Peterson, Merrill Yuranek, and Arnold Bigler. So long and good luck, Class of '47.
