The distance between those two words becomes a little less as we grow older. Be aware then that tomorrow is only tomorrow. There is nothing to fear about tomorrow except the coming of another day. But two against a winter morning are sure to claim one more victory over chance and trouble. Itis a good philosophy for everyone to follow. I feel very strongly about this. Everything should be given an honest and fair trial? These are the words of Superintendent Paul G. Davis, who is being honored for 25 years of service. It is very difficult to evaluate one's life and what one has done in a few Words. 'SI am very definitely satisfied. Of course, there have been happy days and rough days. I wish we could have had bigger and more expansive buildings and could have built more of them. I have enjoyed human and compassionate interest on the part of the teachers. Also I have had pleasure in helping with the Special Education program. In everyone's life there is one experience that is remembered above all others. This was my tribute dinner for twenty-five years of service. Mr. Davis has been seen around the halls in colored shirts, printed ties, and sharp', suits. People must always be neat and tidy. Nature has made all these colors, so why not wear them . . . Illl tell you something, I try to get them at bargain prices. Page 76 MR. PAUL G. DAVIS ye! ima ffm do 50 muck. . . MISS JULIA MURRAY Q l l Miss Murray is one of the teachers that have taught at Wood-Ridge for 25 years. It seems as if Pve been here for only five years! I enjoy working with Wood-Ridge students and directing them with career choices because I feel very close to youth. She has not only been a guidance teacher, but was also a Spanish teacher and a Tri-Hi-Y advisor for many years. Our teachers have close ties. I've always preferred a small school to a large school. We all have a goal we would one day like to achieve, even though our lives have already been full and rewarding. Miss Murray would like to do College Admissions work, but until then she is content just enjoying Wood-Ridge. Page 77 X lf N V SX O GN '06 - -lk U x W li Ss X x TSM. The size -and texture of the paper were changed, new heads were created, and new columns were initiated. The artwork by Robin Bill, the photography by Susan Ramoth, and the sports articles by Gregg Nelson were especially outstanding and deserve special recognition. However, in 1970 as in the past, the paper lacked that which is most needed to make it a success: more student involvement. We hope that in the future, students will take advantage of the paper as a means of communicating and expressing their ideas. In closing we wish to extend our thanks to the literary and business staffs, and the advisors. Our team showed a determined effort and they demonstrated their strength in winning 3 of the last 5 games of the season. This young team has a fine future ahead of it if they continue to work with the same spirit and drive that they did this year. Charlie Groll was named to the All-Conference team for his efforts during the season. Telson, D. Howard C ROSS COUNTRY Endurance is the key note for a cross-country team. They must be able to run two and one half miles over a course with varying terrain. This is done in rain, cold, sunshine, snow or wind. The team compiled its third consecutive winning season, 10-5, by pursuing their sport with spirit, drive, and dedication. Robert Avery Richard Dugan Frank Materia Diego Melendez WRESTLING In the sport of wrestling the members of the team place themselves in direct competition with opponents in their own weight class. It is the combination of 12 individual matches that make up the team's total effort. With hard work by all members of the team they gained valuable experience in their mat work. Although this was only the second year of wrestling in this school, the young squad gives us considerable hope for the future. Page 111 BASKETBALL lst Row QL-RJ: A.J. Borresen, P. Hanke, J. During the course of the season, our lone win came over St. Cecilia's of Kearny. Despite our lack of wins, the team did an admirable job in a tough basketball conference. Dave Staley made the second All-Conference team and Paul Henke made Honorable Mention. Staley broke the conference records for free throws. With determination such as that shown by our team this season. Wood-Ridge is on its way to a much brighter future in basketball. Although a team has a lack in either the field or the track events, it is the overall effort on the part of the team that will win or lose the meet. The new coaches, Mr. Weber and Mr. Fox, are looking forward to a season which will be successful in forwarding the team's ability in the varied events that they will take part in. John Pierce Philip Deleasa Rudolph Angelino Arthur Heckel Frank Materia Joseph Cozza Page I 15 Page 116 BASEBALL This year's baseball team is comprised mainly of juniors and sophomores. This season they will be able to gain the experience that they need. Under the coaching of Mr. Labenski, the team should develop into one with depth and strength. Wood-Ridgels diamond has been the home of many fine teams and it will continue on due to the efforts of the team and its coach.
