Some of us will go on to further our education, others will enter the world of work at once. We are leaving as young adults during an era of much social, economic and political unrest. Our education will enable us to embark on this new adventure with an open mind and a clear head, as well as with the assurance that we have received the very best education possible. These problems, political, economic, and social, fall upon our shoulders. It is the task of young Americans to find their solutions. Realizing that an educated and tolerant world is the basis for a peaceful and prosperous world, we Wish to express our sincere appreciation to our faculty for the interest and concern they have displayed toward us. To our parents we extend our heart-felt gratitude for the patient understanding and guidance which have made our seemingly-large prob- lems small. And last but not least, we wish to thank each other for the many joys and friendships we have known through our extra-curricular activities and our social contacts -friendships that we shall recall and relive again and again through these pages of our Dial. I R O BERT BARTOLE 17 Remember When? ? We entered this Big School as little Greenhorns. Marie and Dot passed out Feenamint in place of Chiclets when they were hard to get. Barbara Gilbert had a fist Hght with Bob Leipold in Mr. Scheibels English class. We went on strike in Miss Briody's English class. We were initiated into The Footlightsn by dressing up in baby clothes. Ioyce L. and Marie had a Hght over Roger at the Iunior Iinx and Seven Gremlins' Christmas party. At the Latin Club trip to the museum Iack Ryff was always lost. Miss Mann became Mrs. Newman. The Moonachie students invaded this Glorious School. We had our freshman Valentine dance and it was such a success. We had that eventful trip to Estling Lake. A stench bomb was thrown in Bickert's cellar. Pat had her Glamor Party and Charlie Hillenbrand fell through the window. Muriel Stevens dropped a worm down Charlie Cox's back in Mr. Marotta's biology class. We all walked around with our imaginary Harveys after Mrs. Reed took us to see Harvey. The stage crew gave their interpretation of Iulius Caesar. Ioyce Leigh had her slumber party. Gil walked out on the stage with a playbook in his hand, and Gus scared little kids in our Iunior Play. Bob Robinson came to W-R with his new idea of taking out two girls at one time. We beat Heights I4-I3 on Thanksgiving to become the B.C.S.L. and State Champions. We square danced on our junior class night. Lita found a frog in her lap in Mr. Stoesser's English class. Iack Bruckman, Poochie,'7 made his fire extinguisher in chemistry. Charlie Cox broke the broad jump record. i We had our Iunior Prom at the Meadowbrook and we danced to the music of Iohnny Long's Orchestra. Ioe Helma gave Miss Caldwell an apple. Betty Lou and Lucille were locked in Room One. The lollypop tree was raided in the kindergarten. Lita had a party after Peg O' My Heartf' We beat Heights 54-6 on Thanksgiving and we were again the B.C.S.L. State Champs. Ginger Milne was the star of our Senior Play. Ioan Ricker wore her Russian hat in gym class and Ioyce S. took an umbrella into the shower. The members of the public speaking class were Easter Bunnies. Doug Milne sang in A Date with Iudyf' I8 19 'Class JOYCE SPADOLA ERICKSON RICHARD Hills Sweethearts LCIE Hicks Jenny smmcufkr Cures! My son and I are now deep in the midst of the infamous tradition of spring cleaning. Come on now, Iunior, you either get that clean- ing done or you can't see Milton Merle on tele- vision tonight. Say what's that you're reading, anyhow? Aw, it is just some old book with a lot of funny pictures of people. I think the name on its cover is the 'Dial.' Yeah, that's right. Bring that over here, and I'll show you some of the people that are making this world famous. Now, here is a picture of Evelyn Buck. As I recall, she won the 1950 Weight lifting championship. Anyhow, she finally settled down and married some Army captain. Bob I think his name is. Here,s Bob Bartole, you know, that lawyer in the Rox-Stone case .... As I remember, he also played the piano. This is Gus Bickert. He revolu- tionized the profession of dentistry when he made the announcement that teeth will be non-existent in a few more years because of the use of bubble gum. That's Gil Blair over on that page. Yes, sir, he made a million dollars when he discovered that cows would give 401, more milk if the farmers wore woolen gloves. You see, he used to be called 'old icey lingersf These boys, Kadlec, Canning and Helma, are the 'guns' in the Moonachie Development Corpora- tion. You know, the company that with the aid of Mel Gallow's Cavalry bought Moonachie back from the Indians. Last I heard, Lucille 'Priscilla' and Betty Lou 'Safeway' Breeze were secretaries in charge of Domestic Relations. Poppa, who is that? That, son, is Douglas Milne, THE richest man in the world. It seems that he built a better mouse- trap and the world beat a path to his door. Say, that reminds me. President Purcaro is making a speech tonight along with vice-president Thunell. Remember they won the recent election on ' a new Chevvy in every garage and a bow tie on every collar' ticket. I think they have Anthony Vara, Iohn Vandervoort, Patsy Fiorito, and Barry Clarke in their cabinet. Anthony's in charge of the ASLP anti-trust suit with the help of F.B.I. man Fiorito and Secret Service Agent Vandervoort. Clarke just finished a Congressional investigation on the habits of migratory birds. Oh, that reminds me. Ambassador Cox and his wife, Madame Mary Mitchell, recently returned to this country from his post in England. Speaking about government matters, the Department of Teacher Education granted a trillion dollar loan to Bruce Wolf's col- lege out in Oshkosh. That is the place where Pro- fessor Ioe Trause is lecturing on 'Women and Their Effect upon Societyf If my memory serves me right, he is taking some evening refresher courses with Ioyce Spadola, the country's noted interior decorator. Here is a coincidence, Ioe Mahlbacher and Robert Leipold both went to the Du Barry Suc- cess School where they graduated with honors. Ice now plays professional football with the Winsoki Winless Wonders, and Bob is nursing trees out in Oregon. This is Iay Kelleher, who is now giving a nation-wide lecture on the 'Ukulele as a Concert Instrument., His tour is booked solid with the aid of Carl Ginex, his 'Latin lover' agent. Ginex, it seems, is currently thrilling the heart of Dee Lea- man. Speaking of love, I have just learned Ierry Streichert and Lois Hicks have scored a home run with their fourteen little 'strike-outs.' Well, of course, you know that glamorous 'deb' Ioyce Leigh married millionaire Milne. Then too itis no sur- prise that Robert Schuhmacher has his six charming daughters helping him run his physics laboratory. In the medical profession we have Dr. Richard Erickson, who is currently thrilling Marie Impe- riale and Nurse Muriel Stevens, who love to take care of Captain Charlie Hillenbrand when he comes home seasick. Myrna Wright is also mar- ried, but she still gets her dander up and goes down to Washington to 'tell those Congressmen a thing or two., Naturally Congressman Bob Nolan takes care of her complaints. I am sorry to state that Banker Dave Iudson hasnlt been doing too well on the market lately, so he has had to pay more tha none visit to psychiatrist Dolores De Marco. In other fields Mae Lohman has been a success- ful novelist along with Dot Trehou and Barbara Howlett. Bob Robinson and Lita Rollins are cur- rently starred in Life with Mother-in-Law, a comedy written by Ioe Oliva and playing at Ron- ald Rebele's theater. Down the street we find Iulia Holmes starring in Ronald Haak's 'I Must Go Where the Swamp Girl Goes' accompanied by Rose Marenzana on the piano. On a world tour, representing the 'Fire and Brimstone Society,' are Barbara Gilbert and Lorraine Pettersen, who I hear are wowing them in darkest Africa! Another member of our class who proved that things were nifty in fifty is lack Ryff, who is searching for the lost chord. Incidentally, I hear that C.P.A. Porfido is having a tough time keeping track of Eddie 'The Groaner' Dudas' income as a singer. Then too 'Sam Spade, Gallow is on the trail of 'Poochie' Bruckman, who is being sought for blowing up aspirins and selling them as marshmallows. The girls did all right too. That's a picture of Ioan McClure, Beth Reilly, and Nancy Roland. They teamed up together and now control the 'bicarb' concessions at all the big dinners. And say, did you see producer Will Iennings' latest picture 'Smellboundf starring the new rage in male stars, William Richards? Ioan Nieman is chief ward- robe director at K. H. U. CKreh-Hart-Uglionej studios. It seems that Roger Kreh hires the ac- tresses, Vincent Hart builds the set and Hugo Uglione does the publicity. And say, did you read Mary Lou Hiller's latest novel 'The In-Laws'P I heard it was banned in Secaucus. It's terrific. Well, Iunior, that is the end of the book. PAUL O. K '49 350 Basketball Opening the season with six lettermen and a new pilot, VVood-Ridge High's dribblers had high hopes of bettering last year's seven won, ten lost record. VVilliam Panzarino, who handled the squad during the 1945-46 campaign, replaced VVil- liam Librera as head coach and led the Ridgers to seven victories in 18 outings, to Hnish lifth in the B.C.S.L. standings. In the p0St-Season State Tour- nament, VVood-Ridge defeated Closter and Park Ridge but succumbed to North Arlington in the Group One, Section One, finals. After copping four of their First six starts, the Blue Devils suddenly found themselves on the short end of close usqueaker' affairs through most of the remaining season. A typical example of this was illustrated in the second meeting with Fort Lee, league winners. In the dying seconds of the game, VVood-Ridge missed three shots under their own basket to make an overtime period possible. Piling up I3 points in the extra stanza, the Orange and Black won easily, 69-62. Ioe Mahlbacher, captain, paced the Ridgers, amassing 265 points. THE SCHEDULE East Rutherford 43 ..............
