R onald Johnson makes eit team for knowing his football Under the direction of Coach Lou Caporale, the Woodchuck varsity football team ended the season with a 2-6-1 record. Winning over Brownsburg, and Attucks, and a tie with Manual, the Gridsters lost to Roncalli, Northwest, and Shortridge in the closing seconds of the games. Browns- burg game gave Wood their first victory 13-6. Larry Taylor scored both TDs. Al- though defeated by Chatard 36-0, Marshall 34-14, Howe 36-6, the Woodchucks drop- ped a rugged contest to Roncalli 20-18 and to Northwest 14-12. Woodchucks exploded in the meeting with Attucks 25-O. Holding the Tigers to a minus 19 yards rushing and only 22 yards passing, 'Chucks defense was led by back- ers Ron Johnson and Richard Turentine, touchdowns were scored by Danny White, Odell Lander, and Art Smith. Concluding the season found senior de- fensive star Ron Johnson being selected for the All City Football Team. Making honorable mention were seniors: Tom Beard, Bruce Noble, Art Smith, Lawrence Taylor, and junior Richard Bellamy. Special award winners for the season were as follows: Defensive line-Ron Johnson, Defensive backfield-Richard Turentine, Offensive line-Richard Bel- lamy, Offensive backfield-Art Smith. Honored by the Kiwanis Club for high scholastic average was Bruce Noble and winning the Kiwanis Club Most Valuable Player Recognition A w a r d was Ron Johnson. FRESHMAN FOOTBALL TEAM-Row One- J.
