Bi Sister provide girls ways to visit unusual places Lilly Big Sisters is a group that consist of twenty junior and senior girls and ten women employees of Eli Lilly and Com- pany. Mrs. Patricia Hallagan, Dean of Girls is the communication link between the Wood girls and Lilly women. One meeting and one activity is planned for each month. Some of the activities included a picnic in Brown County, a tour of Indiana University, a Christmas luncheon at Lilly's, and attendance at the W.I.F .E. Bridal Fair. February 8, Wood met Southport High School on Exercise in Knowledge. Repre- sentatives were Sandy Belviy, sophomore, Debbie Spacke, Greg Burr, and James Ward, juniors. Alternates were Charles Eid, jun- ior, Gary Belviy, juniorg Terry Owens. freshmangand Hilda Minor, senior. Despite their fine efforts, the Woodchucks were defeated 120-100. Team advisors were Mrs. Carolyn Fay and Miss Janice Clark Upward Bound students were given the opportunity to see the many openings available for those who complete a college education, at Purdue University Career Day. Other colleges visited were Indiana University Regional Campus and Indiana State University. Upward Bounders spent the summer attending classes at Indiana University. Another program called Up- Beat sponsored a group that attended Marian College. RIGHT-Big Sister members take a guided tour of Indiana University. LEFT-History seems to be interesting to Big Sister members as they overlook a Lincoln dis- play in Eli Lilly Library. RRATUR wins troph from Columbia School Press Taking pictures,writing reams of copy, headlines, and captions, meeting dead- line schedules are among the many duties of the publications staff members. Three divisions, News Bureau, Wood Log, and Narrator make up the Publication department. Chief of News Bureau, Greg Burr, was elected president of the Indiana High School Press Association. Along with his staff, Greg furnished stories for teen edi- tions of local newspapers. Yearbook editor, Carolyn Nelson as- sisted by section editors, copy writers, and typists joined together to meet each and every deadline. For the first time the cov- UPPER-Quill and Scroll members and expected nominees are seated are Patty Friedman, Betty Jones, Carolyn Nelson and Pam Senteney. Stand- ing are Greg Burr, James Jordan, Ruth Fleming and Richard Kraft. LOWER LEFT-Working on the advertising sec- tion of the WOOD LOG was strenuous but fun work for Jane Bachelor, Editor Betty Jones, and Ruth Fleming. Co-editors Pam Senteney and Debbie Thurston worked with their reporters to get stories for the school newspaper. The Narrator was one of the three top finalists in the local Columbia School Press Project. Among the activities attended by pub- lication members were the Indiana High School Press Association, Marion County Quill and Scroll Press Day and the Indiana State University Press Day. Having dinner at the Iron Skillet was the highlight of the year's activities.
