AN EMON E Nineteen Forty Page The seniors announced the next year that they were going to raise money to go to the 1939 New Xork Vlorld s Fair We decided if we started making money as Juniors it would not be such a tough Job the next year to get enough to take a trip ourselyes at the end of our senior year We sold refreshment at the ball games and were lucky enough that the County Tourney was held at Vlindfall that year Some of us will neyer forget the job it was to keep those re cords of our stles straight Our sponsor no doubt has a few gray hairs on the account of those charts P S We kids were too rlttle bralned to get any gray hairs J Aunt Samantha Rules the Roost was the name of our junior class play Helen Good did an excellent Job of acting is Aunt Samantha an old maid O r oHicers were as follows Mr Hinds sponsor Marion Marshall Jr president Helen Good vice president and Gladys Clem secretary treasurer one present The first act of that year was to elect our officers Mr Scott and Mr Behr were chosen as our sponsors We thought we needed two of them since we expected to haye plenty f r them both to do My ron Henderson was elected as our president Wilbur Jacobs vice president Gladys Clem as secretary and Helen Good as treasurer We found out at the 1n1t1at1on that the only people who really enjoy themselves are the seniors who are doing the initiating There were several new teachers initiated too Mr Brugger ney er gzye the girls any advice on love but he did tell the boys to steer clear of them It wasn t bad even if he did take the wrong side of the question About this time all of us began to think of ways to make money for a trip We sponsored the xnnual Halloween Festival to start us off This IS one place where the seniors dont have as much fun as the rest of the crowd Our hard work was justified when we saw the bank book though Our next project was selling subscriptlons for magazines After we had voted to publish an annual we elected the following staff Gladys Clem Edlt0T1Y'l Chief M mon Marshxll Ass Fditor in Chief luanita Fngleman Bust ness Manager and Ixa Steveson Asst Business Manager We also sponsored a class play md a doughnut fry The year 1939 40 ended with us seniors having the trip to look forward to This made us forget sometimes tha it was the ltst year we could ever spend together in 'good old Vhndfall High School Nme . SENIOR CLASS HISTORY IFTY ONF bovs and girls entc red the Wlndftll High School in September l93F as freshmen As we had a few electix courses our first week was spent in getting our schfdules worked out You could almost point out the students who came from other schools because they always put a slr or mam after their ye and no answers Mr Scott our algebra teacher alwavs thought we said no sir too many times when he asked us if we knew how to get a problem In our first class meeting which proceeded like anything but a class meeting we elected the following officers Mr Eastman sponsor Harold Coffin president Carmen Reid vice president and Jaunita Fngleman secretary treasurer The seniors lnltlated us and the new teachers to such an extent that we begin to think that being a freshman was not all sunshine and roses We got the class together at least two times that year as we had a wlener roast and a theater party The vear 1937 38 began with most of us enrolling as sophomores We felt as lf we were a little better off this year as we didn t have to put up with the seniors at the 1n1t1a tion Some of us took Latin this year There IS nothing on earth wrong with the sub Ject but the two who went to the Latin Contest at Tipton were not interested enough in the subject to get any place in the contest To prove thls neither one took Latin the next year Say what is this a confession? We elected Mr Scott as our sponsor this year in a more orderly class meeting Our other officers were Iva Stexeson president Carmen Reid and Juanita Engleman re elected vice-president and secretary-treasurer respectively. Our president selected a Welfare Committee of three members which were Mary Elizabeth Leachman Gladys Clem and Harold Coflin, As a Student Council was or- ganized our class elected Iva Steveson as our representative. The most exciting event was our Wild West Show at the Hallowe en Festival. It was a campfire scene with Don Smith strumming the guitar rwe just had onei a group of girls singing and Carmen Reid whistling. As a side attraction we gave a little play re-enacting the life of a wild and wooly western town. Some of the boys wore their knees fiat acting as horses.
