The Pennsylvania Dutch design in our book sym- bolizes the historical background for which our com- munity is so proud. She comes from Bethany and took an active part in our junior Class Play. She has taken the Home Economics Course. Her favorite subjects are English and Home Economics. Her hobby is collecting photographs. She also enjoys taking in baseball and basketball games in her spare time. Her interest is centered around a certain junior lad. As to her career, she is going to become a nurse and we know she will be a great suc- cess. Lots of luck and happiness in years to come. He was with our class since first grade and made a very efficient president for us in our junior Year. In the future the navy will oc- cupy most of this tall goodalooking Cassanova's time. She is a very pleasant girl and you can always tell when she is around by her giggling. Her hobby is playing tennis. Since then she has taken an active part in many of the school activities. Her pleasing person- ality has won for her many friends. Her greatest enjoyment is received from reading books. He joined us in our tenth year. He is an admirer of the feminine sex. Bob was in the commercial section. His favorite subject is P.O.D. Bob is not sure what he wants to do when he gets out of high school. The class of '49 wishes him the best of luck. Her experience as a Y4Teener of Wernersville High has helped her a lot in our Y-Teen Club. She is a very avid reader and enjoys most any kind of music. She plans to enter training for a nursing career. With her bright smile and pleasant personality wc'rc sure her future patients will be envied. Good luck to our future nurse. Chorus--4 Y-TCCHS14 Band-4 Nellie Mae Engle ACADEMIC This fair haired lassie joined our class in ninth grade, and has reached the goal she has striven for. Nellie plays a clarinet in the high school band and takes pride in her ability of being able to play the Clarinet Polka. As for her future, she has not definitely decided, but whatever she undertakes, we wish her the best of luck and success. Band-1, 2, 3, 4 County Band-3 Chorus-3, 4 Class Play-3, 4 W-Club-4 Cheerleading-2 Robert Lewis Garrett ACADEMIC Robert, better known by everyone as Red, joined us in his fourth grade. Whenever we hear loud laughter in the back of Room 6 you know Red is up to his stunts again. He took an active part in our junior Play. When Red graduates, he wants to join the service. We wish this young man luck and success in all he ever undertakes during his future years. She joined us in our Fresh- man year. She took part in our junior Class Play So Help Me. Her hobby is collecting snapshots and listening to Tex Beneke's orchestra. Her favorite subject is English. After graduation, she expects to be a dentist assistant in the Medical Arts Building in Reading. We wish her lots of luck and success in the future. She joined us in her Freshman year and came from Bethany. Betty who can always be de- pended upon for a joke and a laugh, has her greatest interest in a certain junior. Her favorite pastime is col- lecting photographs. She expects to go to school in Washington, D. C. to be a receptionist. So here's wishing her success and happiness in her future years. Band--2, 3, 4 Chorus-1, 2, 3, 4 Class Play-4 County Chorus-4 Sherwood Stanley Garrett ACADEMIC This tall lad, commonly known to us at Woody joined us in eighth grade. He plays the clarinet and is one of the student band conductors. In sports, his ability was on the basket- ball and baseball team. He has taken the academic course through high school, and we wish him the best of luck and success in whatever he un- dertakes. Her hobby is collecting snapshots and listening to the music of Vaughn Monroe. She is a commercial student and a faithful member of the class. Dorothy is undecided about- the future, but we wish her luck and success in whatever she undertakes. Chorus-3, 4 Color Guard-3 Y-Teens-2, 3, 4 Jeanette Mae Miller COMMERCIAL Jeanette has been in our class since first grade. Although she is quiet she is a lot of fun and is well liked by her classmates. Her favorite pastime is eat- ing almost anything. Jeanette is look- ing forward to being a stenographer. She has taken the commercial course which prepared her for this job. Mfe all wish her success and happiness in the future. Y-teens-2, 3, 4 Chorus-3, 4 Hans Henry Gosch, jr. ACADEMIC Hans joined our class in fourth grade and became well liked by class- mates. He is a very active member of the class participating in everything possible. In his senior year, he was president of the class and vice presi- dent of the W-Club. I-Ie has partici' pated in sports and is varsity material on the basketball team. Although un- decided about his future we wish him luck and success. As a friendly and cheerful mem- ber of the class, she has won the honor and 'respect of her classmates through her many accomplishments. She takes an active part in the Y-Teens as presi- dent. Better known to the class as Tootg Gladys seems to say very little about the opposite sex. She intends to be an elementary teacher. We wish her success and the best of luck. Her typing ability has been an asset to the yearbook staff and her silly laugh has kept the class spirit up. She loves to play tennis and swim. In the future, Nicky would like to become a medical secretary. Regardless of what she undertakes we wish her lots of luck and success in the future. Chorus-3, 4 Science Club-1 Class Play-3 Operetta-2 Wynn Schenck Herbine COMMERCIAL Wynn joined us in his eighth grade year. Being one of the few male stu- dents in the Commercial course, he never finds a dull moment. A basket- ball game is never complete without his cheering. His short stature and good humor make him an asset to the class. Wynn is uncertain as to what occupation he will follow after gradua- tion. She has been taking the Commercial Course with typing as her favorite subject. Gloria has been the efficient secretary of our class since eighth grade. She is lone of our varsity cheerleaders. After she graduates she hopes to become a typist. We wish her success and the best of luck in the future. She came from Stouchs- burg High School and has a high scholastic rating. Her pastime consists of reading and playing the piano. Her favorite subjects are chemistry and English. Glenna intends to be a nurse when she graduates. We wish her luck and success in whatever she un- dertakes. Chorus-4 0 Donald Alvin Long ACADEMIC This blond-haired Romeo has been with us since we first started on the trail of education at Womelsdorf High. Longie has a great love for arguing no matter what the subject is. Don is a great athlete participating in base- ball and basketball. Longie hopes to Gnd a career as a mechanical engineer, but, whatever you under- take, Longie, ive wish you lots of success in the years that follow. She wishes to become a music teacher after grad- uation. She wants to go to West Chester to study for four years. She is an academic student and student di- rector of the Band. Her hobby is saving special occasion programs. We wish her lots of success and luck in her future. He has been an active member of the basketball and baseball teams. Whenever you hear noise coming from bookkeeping class you can be sure that it is Phil. His interest lies in a certain blonde in the Sophomore class. After graduation Phil plans to enlist in the service. We wish this redhead lots of luck and success. She appears to be the quiet type but whenever you hear a hearty laugh or a silly giggle, you can be sure it's Norma. Norma has two hobbies, writ- ing letters and collecting photographs. She is especially fond of popular music, her favorite orchestra leader being Vaughn Monroe. Norma is very interested in her commercial work and would like to get a position as an office worker after school days, so here's wishing her lots of luck and success. Color Guard-3 4 Chorus-3, 4 William David Schwartz ACADEMIC Bill is one of the few who has been with our class for twelve years. He has been an active member of the High School band for six years. He is a great baseball fan as well as playing it for two years. Basketball rates next to baseball in his estimation. He has participated two years in this sport. His ambition is to enlist in the Navy. Here's wishing him luck in whatever he undertakes. We will relate some of these events to you now. As Freshmen, we had a membership of thirty. Bethany pupils joined our class that year. Our activities consisted of a Christmas party and other home- room activities. The following were elected to ollice during our Freshman term: President, Sherwood Garrett, Vice President, Merle Gordon, Secre- tary, Gloria Oberlyg Treasurer, Anna Schwartz. As Sophomores we sold booster buttons and hats. We also had a hayride to round out our activities for the year. The class roll for our Sophomore year was thirty-three. Class officers were: President, Sherwood Garrett, Vice President, Richard Troutmang Secretary, Gloria Oberlyg Treasurer, Anna Schwartz. In our junior year, we organized a blanket club with 385 members. We held two dances. One was the junior Prom with its big attraction, the crowning of the Prom Queen, Betty Hess. Music was furnished by Steve Baer's orchestra. The queen was crowned by Steve Baer. The other dance was the Mid Year Dance with music furnished by Harold Harrington. Our class play was So Help Me, a comedy in three acts. Twenty-five pupils formed the class roll that year. Officers were: President, james Aumang Vice President, Phillip Raihlg Secretary, Gloria Oberlyg Treasurer Anna Schwartz. At last we are Seniors! Twenty-four pupils under the guidance of Miss Baer. The making of the yearbook of '49 was under the supervision of Mr. Gibson. Our Senior year led us to realize that through co-operation we obtained the best results. It has been a struggle to gain our goal, but we have our eyes set for the future and shall continue to strive for higher goals. Our class oflicers, from the Freshman year to our Senior year, did their best to make our years of high school a success. Our class colors are blue and silver, our class flower the Gardenia. We wish to express our appreciation to the teachers, parents, and pupils, and the townsfolk who helped and patronized the class in everything we undertook.
