SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1954 twenty bashful and energet1c boys and g1rls clnnbed the many sta1rs to the assembly of Wolsey H1gh School to start the1r last four years of school Bllly Houck and Phyll1s Plate were Carn1val Klng and Queen cand1dates Class sponsor was Mr O E Shanholtz Class Presldent was Jerry Koch After 3 months of vacatlon e1ghteen enrolled and two dropped out That year the1r K1ng and Queen cand1dates were Allen Krueger and Phyllis Peterson Joyce Hawley and Phyu1S Plate were chosen as cheerleaders Th1s was also the year our Basketball Team put Wolsey on the map by commg 1n th1rd 1n the State Basketball Tournament B1lly Houck Allen Krueger and R1chard Haeder were players on that team Class Pres1dent for that year was Joyce Hawley and Class sponsor was Mr Lev1 Wade After another 3 months of vacatlon seventeen enrolled and one dropped out of our class Ready and ambxtlous to get gomg on the1r th1rd year ofH1gh School ThlS year the1rK1ngand Queen candldates were Larry Hecklnllable and Joyce Hawley wh1ch was also won by us that year Phyll1s Plate was chosen Sweetheart ofthe formal dance sponsored b the F H A After much pract1ce they were ready to present the1r Class Play M1dn1ght Son d1rected by Mrs Hammer They also ordered the1r class rmgs and recelved them about the m1ddle of the year Phy111S Peterson was chosen F l' A Sweetheart G1rls State delegate was MaV1S Kllcker w1th lflorence Oberg as alternate Boys State was B11ly Houck as delegate w1th R1chard Haeder as alternate Th1s year the Newspaper Huron1te and Dally Plamsman held a cheer leader popularlty contest and our own Phyll1s Plate came in second after much hard work on the part of Allen Krueger land many othersj The Hlghlltes of their Jun1or year was be1ng hosts to the Senlors at was The Hawa11n CPUISS Th1s complet1ng the very exc1t1ng year all left for var1ous Jobs for three months wa1t1ng anx1ously for the1r Sen1or year to roll around Sen1or year at last! Three of our start1ng class droppmg out and two new puplls start1ng our Sen1or year w1th us They are Sandra Woelpert and Josephlne Wllder Class pres1dent IS Phyll1s Plate and Sponsor 1S Mr Cash Th1s year our B B team also won the rlghts to go to the State B B Tournament After defeatlng Yale' Phyll1s Plate th1s year won the cheerleadmg contest by the Da11y Pla1nsman, spurred on by Allen The, semors also made a tr1p to the Mltchell Corn Palace The Sen1or class also presented the comedy H1llb1lly Weddm May 2nd Mary Ann M1n1um was the Betty Crocker Homemaker wmner th1s year The ma1n events of the year was be1ng guests of Jun1ors at the Junior and Sen1or Banquet held 1n the school lunch room On May 14 and 15 the Sen1ors were at the Black H1lls on the1r Skip day Baccalaureate Services were held May 19th at the new Aud1tor1um On May 20th the class of 1957 had the1r commencement exerclses at the new Wolsey Audltormm The Sen1or class colors are P1nk and S1lver the1r flower 1S the p1nk rose, and the1r motto IS Never be Sharp Never be Flat, Always be Natural ' Allen Krueger Shlrley Namanny Ahce R1nghe1mer blorence Oberg and Beryl R1nghe1mer are the only semors to have completed all twelve years at Wolsey Publ1c Schools y ' . 0 'cz - - n - ' the Junior and Senior banquet held at the school lunch room.
