SENIOR CLASS HISTOR Y Of the f1rst graders who started to school 1n the fall of 1943 only two are complet1ng the1r twelve long years 1n Wolsey Pubhc School They are Nancy Balvm and Kemth Harder Elame Kllcker was wrth us all the t1me except her 8th grade year .lamce Larsen moved from Cal1forn1a 1n the second grade and the followmg year Beth Hawley came from Cavour to f1n1sh her educat1on wlth us We found ln the 8th grade that Alfred Braun was to Jom our class As freshman we acqu1red s1x more students who w1shed to graduate wlth us namely Elame Khcker Jerry MIHIUUI Shlrley Qulram Art Scherschhght Arlene and Darlo Tschetter Mr Meyers was our Class Sponsor Elame Kllcker our Pres1dent and Beth Hawley and Art Schershhllgt were our Carmval Royalty Our class remamed small durxng our sophomore year Keith Harder led the class as Pres1dent and Mr Wade was our Sponsor E1a1ne Kucker and Afred Braun were elected as our Carmval K1ng and Queen Candxdates The h1ghl1ght of our Junxor year was the play 'It S A Great L1fe 1n whlch most of the Jumors took part It was d1rected by Mrs Wolfe Art Scherschlrgt was Pres1dent Nancy Balvm and Ke1th Harder were our cand1dates for the H1gh School Carmval and Mrs Wolfe was our class Sponsor Jamce Koch transferred from Wess1ngton to Wolsey H1gh School 1n her Junlor year Nancy Balvm represented Wolsey H1gh School at G1rl's Sate 1n Mxtchell w1th Ela1ne Mtmum as alternate On May 1st 1054 the Juruors entertaxned the senlors and faculty at a fme banquet at the Tam s Hotel tn Huronuusmg the Garden Party theme Janne Larsen was a cheerleader her fxrst three years of hxgh school ,Ie rry Mm1um was student manager for the basketball team 1n h1s Junxor year Art Scherschhgt was our tenor solomst at Aberdeen m h1s Junxor year and Art and Darlo 'lschetter were 1n the Boy S Sextette also that year Durmg our Jun1or year we selected as our motto Success Awalts At Labor's Gates Our flower was the tul1p and our class colors were mmt green and hlac Tha last year the semors were sponsored by Mr Cash Nancy Balvm was elected class Pres1dent and Janxce Koch and Darlo Tsehetter were our Kmg and Queen Cand1dates Nancy Brlvm rc c e1ved the D A R Award ind also the Home makmg Award Art Schersch lxgt was selected Captam of the basketball team for 1054 55 w1th Alfred Braun as Fo 10 , . . y . . , . , - - 1 9 . . . . , , . . . captain. Art Scherschlight also made Honorable Mentlon on the State B All Tourney Team. The basketball team coached by Mr Doty had won the Beadle County Confer ence Title and Tournament the D1str1ct and the Reg1ona1 Tournaments and so won thelr way into the State B ' Tournament wh ch was held 1n the Huron Arena the 10th llth and 12th of March Wolsey was very pleased to have the1r team come out m 3rd place From our class there were two boys on the f1rst team Art Scherschlmgt and Alfred Braun Darlo Tschetter was student manager durmg thxs year We enjoyed presentmg the play 'Through The Keyhole under the dxrectxon of Mrs Doty A hxgh pomt of mterest was our trlp to Souxx Falls for our Skxp Day The cl1max of our twelve years came on the nlght of May 10th when we recelved our d1plomas and became graduates of Wolsey Hxgh School The guest speaker was Dr Lx le Derschemd, who was an alumnus of Wolsey Irhgh School and on the faculty at South Dakota State College Elame Klmcker was Valedtctorman and Nancy Balvm as Salutorxan The Class of 1955 w1shes to extend the most smcere good wxshes for success to all oi those who follow ln our path 7 I Valedictorian Speaker Sglulatgrgan ELAINE KLICKER DR LYLE DERSCHIED NANCY BALVIN
