They are all in a dither because they are expect- ing the return of their son, Billy, who has become a national hero through his exploits in a shipwreck. The whole town turns out 'to meet Billy and his homeless friend, .Cornelius Nelley Crum. However, in the confusion, Crumi is mistaken for the hero. In the middle of the mess Pamela Payne, a college reporter appears. She also mistakes Crum for Billy and tells Virginia Gregg 4Billy's girly about his amorous inclinations. More complications come whena local filling station is held up and Pamela elopes. Billy is suspected in both cases. Neeley turns up with two hundred dollars, the amount which was taken from the station. Pop Haskins and Smitty, the maid, are also drawn into the misunderstanding, and Bil- ly has just about decided that being a hero isn't quite what he thought it would be. In the end, however, Billy is cleared of suspicion and wins the girl of his choice, Virginia. Neeley is adopted by one of the town's most exalted citizens and the Haskins family once more enjoy the glory of the hero. A-Feudin' Over Yonder Here is a Hillbilly play which takes place in the Ozarks. The plot revolves around the feuding Popoff and Fry families because one of the Popoff boys said he was going out to shoot an old skunk and accidentally shot Paw Fry instead. Mountain Maggie, who travels around the hills nursing thesick, comes to patch up someone hurt in the feud. Rosie Belle Fry, being handy with a gun, takes the only unattached male in the hills from under her sister Emmy's nose. Emmy, who'd like to get hitched, decides she'll end up an old maid if she doesn't get one of the Popoff boys. But she can't marry someone with whom her family is having a feud. She enlists the aid of Mountain Maggie, to put an end to it, so Mountain Maggie convinces Maw Fry and Pappy Popoff that some plain sugar water she gives them is a love potion which will make them fall in love. They just about decide to get married and end the feud, when Rosie Belle arrives with the news that it was all a trick. In the end the feud is ended and everyone is happy. It seemed like a long time from our freshmen year to the senior: but we found that time really flew. In 1949 we began our freshman year with twenty-six members. We elected our class officers as follows: President, John Alishouse: Vice President, Russell Emond: Secretary, Phyllis Gillen: Treasurer, Ronald Foster. Our Student Council members were Carmin Collins and Robert Christopher. We chose Mrs. Web- ster as our sponsor. The first big affair of the year was the carnival. We chose to give a radio program called lgnorant In- formation Please . The script was written by four of our class-mates. Our first class party of the year was a weiner IOBSI held at the home of Marian Rauer. We ordered our class sweaters this year with hopes that we would be seniors some time, The boys out voted the girls and got the color sweaters they wanted--red with white letters. Our second class party was another weiner roast--this time at Catherine Arvin's. As that year drew to a close, we found that our class had become smaller, due to the withdrawal of Ar- thur Wiley. When school took up again in the fall of our sophomore year, we found that we had lost two more mem- bers: John Alishouse and Raymond Brown. The first thing we did was, of course, 'to elect our class officers. They were President, CarmanCollins: Vice President, Marvin Christopherg Secretary, Kenneth Norrisg Treasurer, Catherine Arvin: Student Council, Marian Rauer and Robert Christopher: Sponsor, Mrs. Webster. Our first class party this year was a trip to Ideal Beach to skate. For the carnival we had three projects: a boxing match, carried out by the boys: a check room and for- tune telling tent, which were run by the girls. We ordered our class rings in the second semester of this year. Of course, we thought they were very pretty, and could hardly wait until next year when we would get them. We went skating again for our second class party, but this time we went to Rensselaer to the armory. We entertained the assembly one day with a one act play called The Pampered Darling . We had lots of fun giving it--I hope the audience enjoyed it as much. At the close of this year, our class had become smaller again, We always seem to lose and never to gain. This time we lost Phyllis Gillen, Tim Poindexter, Fern Walters, Maurice Hamilton, Robert Allie, Arvil Duley, Harold Ma rgison , and Glenn Furrer. John Nissley came to our class, but only stayed two weeks. When we began our junior year, we considered it one of the most important years of our school life. FOTOSHOP GOODMAN' S Monticello, Indiana Monticello, Indiana s . . . . , , ,, --1-Y w:'v fmr. , , ' 1 During the summer, we had gained two members, Jane Young and Lois Stein, but as usual, we lost some. We were sorry to see Joanne Pearson had left us. We elected our officers as follows: President, Carmin Collins: Vice President, Marvin Christopher: Secretary, Donna Sheets: Treasurer, Catherine Arvin: Stu- dent Council, Marian Rauer and Robert Christopher. Our sponsor this year was Miss Dal Ponte. We received our class rings about the first week of school, but as usual, some of us didn't keep them very long. Since we were juniors and very busy, we had no class parties. The thing we all looked forward to was the junior play. We gave Call Me Darling on the night of November 8, 1952 at the Wolcott Theatre. It was quite an affair. After the play, we lost two more members, Verna Stortz and Odetta Stoller. We were quite honored in having two of the three yell leaders come from our class this year. They were Donna Sheets and Carmin Collins. After Christmas, we had to begin making plans for our treat to the seniors. We decided to have aprom in the gym, using the theme, Memories of Maytime . We decorated the gym with yellow, green, and white crepe paper and cheese cloth. We were quite proud of ourselves for what was accomplished, since it was the first prom in several years. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Kenneth Norris left us during this year, so we ended with a small class. Another big task of the year was decorating the theatre for commencement. Since the senior colors were maroon and white, we covered the screen with maroon crepe paper and used white letters for their motto. So ended our eventful junior year at Wolcott High School. We were now full-fleged SENIORS, We began our senior year with only thirteen in the class. The first thing we did was to elect class officers. They were: Marian Rauer, Presidents Vice President, Marvin Christopher: Secretary, Juanita Dignan: Treasurer, Catherine Arvin: Student Council, Donna Sheets and Jon Telfer. Mrs. Webster was back again with us as sponsor. , We were again honored to have Donna Sheets as one of the yell leaders this year. This year, of course, our biggest aim was the Senior trip. Nearly everything we did was connected in some way with plans for the trip. We are sure we will enjoy it. We made an annual this year. We tried very hard to make it bigger and better than anyone has ever been. We made it mostly so we would have something to remember our school days, but we madea little money. Catherine Arvin was elected Editor and Carmin Collins was to be the Assistant Editor. All of our activities seemed to come at the end of the year. First came the senior play, then Baccalaure- ate, and last, but far from least, Commencement. With that, comes the end of our happy days in the hallowed halls of Wolcott High. There may be some longing when the school bells ring next fall, but I think we will all look back with joy at our school days, but also look forward to days to come. HOPKINS and WININGS SEARS ROEBUCK and CO. Monticello Monticello Smia lfraplzcry I9 6 3 FAMED BEAUTICIAN---Miss Juanita Dignan has quit as the famed beautician of John L. Lewis. Miss Dig- nan kept Mr. Lewis' eyebrows in shape. Have you noticed since she hasn't been taking care of them, how wooly he is looking. Miss Dignan also acted as an advisor, but was fired when she tried to stop the last coal strike. EASY DUZ IT RANCH---Marvin Christopher, who owns the Easy Duz It ranch south of Wolcott was once a Wolcott student. The ranch covers 3, 000 acres and Marvin hopes to expand it soon. He has 30 ranchers all of whom are women. Marvin gained his success by selling farms from the experience he re- ceived while giving a speech in speech class one day. PONDS SHOP---Marian Rauer has started a Pond Cosmetic Shop because she heard Pond's Slogan, She's lovely, she's engaged, she uses Ponds . She thought maybe the same thing would happen to her. She was so up in the air when she found out it didn't work that she decided to become a stewardess and fly with the pilots up there. She assists with the passengers and takes special care of the men. However, she comes back to Wolcott, occasionally, to visit her friends. NEW AUTO---The master-mind of autos, Robert Christopher, has just opened a new auto shop in Wol- cott called, you break it, we fix it, if we can't fix it, you pay anyway . Mr. Christopher worked at May's auto in Remington 10 years ago and finally decided to start a place of his own. Robert is acon- firmed bachelor. However, with nis newacar called 'Ladies Home , his days for being that are getting shorter. The backseat of the car twirls into a kitchen' and the back windows have red polka-dot curtains. NEW HOME FINISHED---Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Famey, who are now residing at Elm Avenuein Wolcott, following their marriage a month ago, have just now finished their million dollar home. Mrs. Fameyis the former Catherine Arvin, honor student of Indiana University. Catherine says there is one special room in the house she likes best, for every time LeRoy gets mad at her she just goes into the room with isles and isles of mirrors and he can't find her. SPIKE OPENS AT ORIENTAL--- Spike fDillony Jones and his jazz band has opened at the oriental here in Wolcott with that sweet singer, Rosemary Clooney. Mr. Dillon gained his fame at the Green Gables when Spike Jones and his fellow band members noticed that rhythmic cling of dishes as Byron cleaned off tables and gave him a start in his band. Byron then started one of his own. His band is very good, inci- dentally' Be sure and buy a ticket. R NEW BOTTLING WORKS---Mr. and Mrs. James Anker recently opened a new bottling works on the south side of Wolcott under the able assistance of Dixie, Carmin's little sister. Mrs. Anker is the formerCar- min Collins. The new bottling works has been named Baby's streamlined weather-fitting bottle . It is designed with a small air conditioner in summer to keep the baby's milk cool and a small heater for the winter to keep baby warm. When the baby starts to cry, a small movie projector is attached and the little tot can watch a movie. If the baby cries at night it automatically sticks itself in the baby's mouth. We wonder if the reason they designed this is because they got tired of getting up in the middle of the night. NEW RESTAURANT OPENED---Miss Jane Young has opened a new restaurant in Wolcott under the able assistance of Aly Khan. The restaurant has been named Aly-Khan Eat . Her specialty igalunch plate which consists of roasted lobster, bumt french fries, and a sour salad and also if desired, mud coffee. She would enjoy your patronage. ROUND GROVE GRAIN CO. REMINGTON FARMERS NATIONAL BANK Member FDIC NEW COACH AT WOLCOTT HIGH---The trustee of Princeton Township has announced that Jon Telfer will again be the coach of Wolcott High after last year taking retiring Coach Sieber's place. lt seems Mr. Sieber gave up when he couldn't persuade the boys to quit dating girls. It took Jon 8 years to go through college. He said he knew that way he would surely pass. He has some new ideas about basket- ball--in fact quite new. Jon says that if the opposing team takes the ball from his players they are to yell, ROBBED and then the referees will restore the ball to the Wolcott players. Last year Wolcott play- ed 20 games a-nd won them all. Coach Telfer says he expects to do much better this year. SHEETS SISTERS TRUCKING CO. ---The Sheets Sisters Trucking Co. has just taken over the old estab- lishment of Sheets Bros. Trucking Co. It consists of all women drivers. Donna Sheets, who is manager has taken out a new kind of insurance called Lady drivers, all are chums, LOOK out people here they come. Donna, now has a total of 'I semi-trucks. 2 pick-ups, and also a bright yellow Packard convert- ible. She says she goes on all the trips she can with her drivers and her motto is My dear car, be it bright or be it yeller, I'm out to find a real nice feller . YOUNG SURGEON SAVES MOVIE STAR---That wonder-working young Surgeon from Wolcott, Ronald Foster, made his mark in medical history a few months ago when he saved the life of Little Twittie from that dr-astic putty tat . When interviewed about it. he merely and quietly said, anyone would have done it, being a poor little and delicate thing myself, I can' quickly realize how terrible the little bird felt. SPEEDWAY RACER BREAKS RECORD AND NECK---Russell Emond, has the fastest known record of any race track driver in the world. He qualified for the annual Memorial.Day Race at the amazing speed of 400.2 miles per hour with his new jet-rate auto. He would enjoy receiving get well cards and letters from his friends. One request please. just one page cards, Russell can't bend his neck to tum them, a slight case of a few broken bones. He received his experience for racing from driving around the school building at HOOD. NEW PHOSPHATE PLANT---Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Emond have remodeled the Emond Phosphate Co. on the east side of greater Wolcott. Mrs. Emond is the former Jane Walters. lt seems they had an apartment over the plant and everytime loading or unloading of phosphate was accomplished, Jane had to wash all her curtains and scrub floors. Joe got tired of buying 3 or 4 pair of curtains a week and a whole nemset of furniture for the whole apartment every 2 weeks so he built the apartment 5 stories above the rest of the plant. Now whenever loading or unloading occurs Jane merely pushes all her furniture into the wall and when she gets tired of the old fumiture she pushes a button and her fumiture goes into the phosphate, unknown to Joe, of course. Then the new furniture is obtained. Quite 3 fear! .rr-ge' d,v4 i ,M - 2wg3,'g.,'fw- we 'Tw'-we ' - ' - P z an y sw- V 1.55 3 ,BY 4 . Donna Sheets, that peppy yell-leader, Hopes soon for a guy to come and meet he A couple she has now on the line But somehow they just aren't her kind, Jane Walters, that charming young lass, ls neat and quiet and has plenty of class. Everyday to the mail box she will go, In hopes. she will receive a letter from her G,I. Joe, Catherine Arvin, the most scholastic lass, Ranks first in all the senior class, Her ambition is a music teacher to be, But it wouldn't surprise us if she became Mrs. Farney, Carmin Collins, so short and spry, Thinks Jim Anker is quite a guy, In years to come we wouldn't be surprised, To find Mr, and Mrs. Anker and a lot of little guys. ' The clown of our class in Byron Dillon. To get out of work he is always willin, He isn't interested in any special girl, But someday he will find one that'll make his head whirl, Robert Christopher better known as Cob, To keep his gals happy is quite a job ln spite of his red hair he is jolly and swell The heck with the girls they can go--their way, Juanita Dignan, for boys has no passion, She thinks they're out of date and out of fashion, But a romeo bold will come by soon, And we will be hearing wedding bells some day in June, Jon Talfer, that tall and handsome brute, Has all the girls thinking he is mighty cute. And as an athelete he is really fit, Not only with the girls but as a player he is a hit. Russell Emond, one of the senior guys, Doesn't like to study, it weakens his eyes. But with his Chevy he will set a pace, And will give any guy a heck of a race, Marvin Christopher--quiet and shy, Is quite a hit at Wolcott High He drives around a Ford V-8 But with the girls he does not date. Mrs. Webster, our sponsor so dear, Helped us through our senior year. Wonderful and helpful has been she, We hope she won't forget, the mighty class of n53vr To the teachers, we'd like to say to you, Without your help we would never have gotten through, And to our parents we owe a debt With money, this price can never be met, And to the students of old Wolcott High, We want to extend to you our fondest goodbye.
