The poetry and songs of centuries echo in many ways the hu- man calamity of unfulfilled hopes and smashed dreams. No such despair characterizes the Class of 1983. Your class, the first to graduate under my principalship, recognized from the beginning that high school is. in a sense, the last stop of your young years, and your exper- iences here seem to overflow with friendship, laughter, and the unforgetably gentle pleasure of familiarity. You have respected each other; you have found and cemented lasting relationships: above all. you have enjoyed yourselves, blending academic seriousness with a light, sensitive social scene. ADOLPH BIRKENBERGER In the autumn of 1979, we came to Wolcott High as freshmen full of eagerness and anticipation. As we knew little or nothing about the many tradi- tions of the school, it was up to Adolph Birken- berger to break us in and help us get organized. First came the election of our class officers and representatives, and then our first competition in the annual First Lady” contest. JOHN BAGIONI By the beginning of sophomore year, we were veterans in the ways of the school. Even before the official start of the contest, we began making preparations for the First Lady” competition. Other events that we will remember include the election of class offi- cers. along with the all-important fund rais- ers. Through all of this. That fine evening was the best of many activities which we conducted that year under the direction of Mike DiCorpo, Sue Jones, Rose Tessier. MARIE CARROLL From the beginning of our Senior Year in September of 1982, right up until the pre- sent time, Fran Embardo and Marie Carroll have been the driving force behind the Class Of 1983. Without their many hours of devotion to us, our many events would not have been the successes that they were. It is for this reason that we give them our gratitude with this page of special rec- ognition. • ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, £ STAFF • DR. ROBERT F. CARROLL As the Class Of 1983 finished its junior year, we witnessed a great change in Wolcott High School. Mr. Laurence E. Shapiro, who as Principal had greeted us as freshmen, retired from the principalship, and Dr. Robert F. Carroll, who had served as Assistant Princi- pal for twelve years, succeeded him as Principal. Although he is new to the top administrative post in the high school, Dr. Carroll’s career in Wolcott High School goes back almost to its beginning. In the time that he has been with us. since September of 1961, he has been a classroom teacher of Civics, U.S. History. Contemporary Issues 6 Economics, and has been active as advisor for Freshman Class, Sopho- more Class. Debating Team, Ski Club, Student Coun- cil. Junior Class; and Senior Class. As Class Play Director, Dr. Carroll brought Broadway to Wolcott. We welcome Dr. Carroll to his new position and give him our sincere best wishes. • CONGRATULATIONS $ WELCOME! • MR. THOMAS A. JOKUBAITIS On behalf of the entire school community and the Town of Wolcott, we are happy to welcome Mr. Thomas Jokubaitis as he undertakes his new role as our Superintendent Of Schools. Mr. Jokubaitis is new to the Wolcott School System, hav- ing come to us from Stamford where he was the Director Of Elementary Program Development. Prior to holding that po- sition, he served as Principal of an elementary school in Madison, after having been Assistant Principal at an elemen- tary school in Prospect. He has been active as Director for the Connecticut Association of Supervision 6 Curriculum Development, and has completed course requirements for a doctoral degree in educational administration.
