At this time of your graduation, many of you are no doubt wondering how days which seemed endless could turn into years which went by so swiftly. In the short years you have been with us. much has happened - to you, to your school, to the world. You have been both witness to and participant in many events, great and small, which have changed your lives and will continue to do so in the years ahead. You came into Wolcott High School as we began new construction and renovation which completely engulfed the school and made daily life here an adventure. Surrounded by the noise and dust of construction, with workmen all over the place, sudden schedule changes and temporary loss of facilities, you watched the new and the old blending. Along the way. you earned the respect and admiration of everyone connected with the job for the manner in which you conducted yourselves and treated the work and the people doing it. And then you were involved in the process by which our school was evaluated by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and judged to be among the top seventeen percent of high schools in the New England States. A very proud moment indeed - testimony to much hard work by everyone in this school. Around us. we are caught up in the great and increasingly absorbing matter of conservation of sources of energy. The second fuel shortage in a few years and attendant higher prices, coupled with a seemingly unstoppable inflation, are making life more difficult for us all. These are problems with which you will be forced to cope, more and more, in the time ahead. Your best contribution will be needed to save the future for yourselves, your children and our country. I hope you will be numbered among those who lead in the effort to preserve all that is good. The theme of your yearbook has been “Friends” - a beautiful theme. I hope that the friendships made in your school days will endure as you grow older. I know that many of my present friendships date back to those days and I have cherished those friends as you will cherish yours. As you experience what life offers, together with your friends or all alone. I hope you will from time to time look back on the morning of your lives as reflected in the pages of your yearbook and that your hearts will be warmed thereby. Mrs. Jonaitis, matron and friend, has given much of her time to help us on our way. She was always present, and ready to support us in our fund-raisers, so- cial activities, personal projects. The final moments are here, upon us. after 4 long years. We have come to the final paragraphs in the opening chapters of the story of our lives. As you. the reader of this book, look at the faces in the pictures, remember that in each of us dwells a spirit which has just begun to stir. We have learned the value of friendship, and as we look back to these special times we will more clearly appreciate the role that it has played in preparing us for what lies ahead. Who can ever forget the planning and work that went into making that evening the great success that it was? Months of preparation were involved. Decorations to order, per- formers to hire, tuxedos and flowers to arrange for. Hoping to be there with that special person . How well we remember the parties before the prom and the beach on the following day. For all of us who shared that important moment, the memo- ries will be forever vivid. 60 61 62 63 SENIOR ELECTIONS The morning fog lifted to reveal the motorcade heading toward school. Cars and trucks hung with banners and streamers. Finally, the ballotting. For us, the task of electing officers was our first major event. 64 As in all elections, the tension of the campaign and the excitement of the bal- loting is broken by the announcement of the election results. Will the new leaders of our class rise to the occasion? Only at the end of the year can we look back to find that answer. 65 FIRST LADY CONTEST The annual competition between the classes! No scheme or guise was too bizarre as long as it raised money. Our goal was to see the senior class candidate crowned queen of the event, and we earned our victo- 66 67 FUND- RAISING Raising money for the First Lady Contest was our first initiation. Then came the magazines, and the candy, and the play tickets, and all kinds of odds and ends. By the time June arrived we were veterans, and most of us could sell just about any- thing, anywhere. fi«s- 68 69 70 71 72 N.H.S.
