Custodian and 64 We, the Class of 1977. dedicate with sincere appreciation our AQUILA to MR. RALPH SANTOPIETRO for his constant support. As Advisor for Student Council, he has given of his time and efforts unselfishly. His consistent aid and genuine enthusiasm have been a major factor in the success of important events. Coaching the track team, he inspired them to set their goals high and to strive to do their best. These are qualities that he so evidently possesses. His optimism has made our goals a reality. His concern has given us incentive. His understanding has given us insight. ROSANNE DANCE ALICE DELOY IN MEMORIAM “A Never-Forgotten Friend” — by Sandi Centinaro In memories, I see a familiar smile, one that tells me that time must go on. But, as time goes on, it seems so lonely. Sometimes, I hear a distant laugh behind me, but as I look behind, no one stands before me. I dial a number so familiar and then wait to hear that happy “hello” but as the phone rings on, I realize I dialed for an un- reachable voice. When I walk down the crowded school halls, though now barren to me, I feel a strange presence ... someone waiting to jump out and surprise me with laughter and teasing, but as I turn that corner, there is nothing. There is only empty space staring back at me. I keep looking for that familiar friend. No one can ever take the place of my never- forgotten friend ... a friend always there when needed. Someone to smile, laugh with, someone to share my deepest secrets with. ... a friend to spend hours of giggles with ... someone to share a pizza and a coke with ... or just sharing a movie to- gether ... someone to spend lonely Sun- days with ... the most meaningful reason for a friend, just having someone who cares. These are my memories. I reminisce ... a beautiful and never-forgotten friend. 66 EDWARD ZMIJEWSKY 67 68 Superlatives 1977 Best Friends - Diane Trehubenko, Loretta Seeley Most Likely to Succeed - Dave Vastola. Long hours of memo- rizing lines, learning dance steps and songs replaced the everyday life of the cast members. Even though it was a lot of hard work, it was a rewarding experience as the particpants looked forward to the actual production. The leading roles went to Joanne Hanlon, as Fanny Brice; Ben Russell, as Nick Arnstein; Gary Croche- tiere, as Eddy Ryan; and Karen Godin, as Mrs. Brice. Victory Dance The Varsity Club did an excellent job with the annual Victory Dance. It was held on Nov. 26, 1976 at the Pontelandolfo Club in Waterbury. This year a new tradition was started when awards were given out to the most valuable football players. Magazine Drive High Salespeople in the Magazine Drive were: Kim Kovaleski, Ron Jursyk, Diane Bellemare, Gary Byram, Randy Watts, Pete Testa, Karen Capolupo; (Seated) Joan Pitino, Darlene Soucy. Christmas — 1977 — W.H.S. This year, as in the past, the Student Council held the Christmas Decora- tion Contest. Each homeroom door held a Christmas scene and each class was given a stairwell to decorate. The judges for the contest this year were: L. To R. Mayor Joseph Lango; Mrs. Susan Jones, Board of Education mem- ber; Mrs. Evelyn Walsh, Secretary to the Treasurer; Mr. Nicholas D'Agos- tino, Superintendent. 120 Bloodmobile Wolcott High School was visited this year by the Red Cross Bloodmobile. As in the past, students turned out in great num- bers to donate, generously and courageously, (See Above), their time and their blood to those in need. Lauren Clark, Steve Hatch Construction work at the high school did not deter Mrs. Lawson’s Creative Cookery :lass from accomplishing its goals. Here members of the class take advantage of a brisk winter day and make-shift conditions to complete an assignment in survival cooking. Steak and Shrimp Goedendag Memories 124 Reflections: 1976-77 from Mr. Shapiro My dear friends: Four short years ago you came to us as children. Now you leave as young adults who have achieved, who have excelled, who have impressed us with your many fine qualities as individuals and as a class which has continued the finest traditions of the school. You have, in the time between entering and leaving, distinguished yourselves and made us proud of you. Your years with us have been exciting ones both at home and around the world. You have witnessed great and significant events. You beheld the resignation of a president in disgrace, but you saw that our Constitution lives and that our Republic is a nation of laws and not of men. And you observed our magnificent two hundredth birthday celebration. Wasn't it glorious! I was never so proud to be an American as on the Fourth of July, 1976. And how proud we should all be to be a part of America, part of what Abraham Lincoln called “the last, best hope of earth.” I will always remember, too, President Ford’s ringing statement in his last State of the Union Message to Congress, “The greatest privilege and honor of my life has been to be a citizen of the United States of America.” As you take your leave of Wolcott High School, and as we all begin the third century of American indepen- dence, we find our country and the world beset by problems, the energy shortage, unemployment, and inflation among them. You will be called upon to help find solutions for these problems. Get involved - be the best you can be, and give the best you are to your town and the world. And all the while, thank God you live in a land where we are, each of us, free to follow our own path. During your Junior year, you saw work begin on the much-needed new addition to ‘our house’. It is being finished as you leave. I want you to know how much I have appreciated your leadership during these past two difficult years, when we have been hard put to continue in our routine ways as the building has gone up around us. I am intensely proud of the way you have conducted yourselves during this trying period. Every single workman on the job has commented on your impressive and mature conduct. Thank you for all you have done here, and for the many warm and wonderful memories you have given us. We will remember you with a special feeling of pride, affection and something more. May all your tomorrows be as honorable and as rewarding as have been the four years which now, regretfully but joyously, draw to a close. I hope you will come back to see us. Until then, may the Creator whom we all worship hold you in the hollow of His hand. Affectionately, Laurence E. Shapiro Principal 126 ♦Pulaski 14 13 Outstanding Player D. Dunlap B.
