e.rr e. nloC(di s rtc -or oitcn Avki rosTs Q.re s aiA. cuA lou)ers H3° en v q i aen u eruooi ad oover Blossom Uossowt e sfr 3 begins ftcs In this photo Coach Morris, with a perplexed look about him, watches the varsity baseball team at work. There is much a coach must be concerned with — not with just the team and its record but the individ- ual player and the kind of man he will be. The difference is this: A man who tarries long hours in his field, with patience, prospective, and drive, who lets time do its work, ripening, mellowing, perfecting, who cares more than just a little, thinking, hoping, praying, who loves his life, his work, his family, his home — can only harvest the purest of fruits, much purer than those men who have no conscience. And that’s the difference between exceptional performance and existing at the border of it. Each man has a star to follow and a way to reach it. Everything he does should count — tying his shoe, writing a story, helping a friend who’s in need. To perform in life has many different meanings to every different person, But to perform well can only mean doing the best you can at what you're doing. There is no room for fraud for laziness for taking the easy way out — only the fruit put into a food can make that food delicious. Stop, think, begin to help yourself to perform your life in your own unique way in your own unique performance. Determination that brings us above and beyond is the kind of thing shown by Bill Keane in this photo. The entire 1975 track team, thrust into Colonial League Competition, did an outstandng job by breaking many of the long-standing records. The squad, guided by rookie Coach Gary Waugh, saw tremendous improve- ment and drive from its under- classmen, who promise to keep up a long-held tradition of winning. % This year’s senior class pro- duction of George M. saw a fine bit of acting, dancing, and sing- ing done by Little Georgie him- self”, Rick Guilfoile. Talent is not something that is more abundant at Wolcott High than any other high school in the state, but the long work hours and endless enthusiasm that Wolcott’s seniors put into their production made George M. stand far above any other school play in the area. Mom, Dad, and Josie were pure gold, and without the Cohans’ ability to charm the audience we prob- ably never would have seen that tenth and final standing ova- tion. Of course, the director Mr. Robert Carroll and his staff, Mrs. Cynthia Koch, Mr. Matthew Tyndall, among others, all did the professional job which made the play seem to be noth- ing short of Broadway. Girls’ softball seemed to create a lot of interest this year. The girls’ ability to win every game except one, during regular season play, at- tributed to this fact. This year’s stars, who also won the Colonial Conference softball title, really showed all of us (especially the guys) how to play ball. We expect to see a winning team for a long time to come because of Wolcott’s tre- mendous interest in the game of softball. To have beaten every boundary and the once-felt pains and sorrows to have long forgotten . .. Smiles, laughter — a mellow fire burning gently in your heart — a joke, a pun, a picture of a flower. Nothing has no pleasure seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. Memories imprints of time . .. jubilance. There is no reward no payment better than the warm, fluttery feeling of enjoyment. Now that was a banquet! This year’s Honor Society Senior Ban- quet was something to talk about. The theme, the Gatsby era, made for a most interesting and deli- cious night. The second purpose of the evening was to install the new officers, who are: President Ralph Napiany, Vice-President Martha Davidson, Secretary Carol Monnerat, and Treasurer Ron Lo- kites. The time travels by, so softly, so smooth; and memories are captured in our minds. Now is the time to sit back and smile ... to enjoy our achievements and performances. The Senior Prom, held at the Lau- relview Country Club in Hamden, was the social event of the year. A large portion of the senior class stu- dent body attended the prom, and it was deemed a huge success by everyone. Creativeness is something which has played a major role in the en- deavors of this year’s senior class. The senior Honor Society members exemplified this by symbolically us- ing Sesame Street characters to por- tray their message at the annual in- duction of new members. Over forty people were inducted into the Honor Society, and Mrs. Patricia Battisti was made an honorary member for her services rendered to the society and to members of the senior class. Mr. Gerace, the advisor of the Bron- son Alcott Chapter of the National Honor Society, deserves a great deal of credit for his contributions to this remarkable performance. The Sportsmens’ Picnic, spon- sored by the E Club, was a major event of the spring. This is where the kids got a chance to prove how much better than the coaches they really are in such games as volley- ball, horseshoes, and softball. There was plenty of good food to be eaten and a chance to have a lot of fun. This picnic, a first, is sure to become a tradition. Lori and her family look over the debut of the 1975 Aquila on Class Night and give it their stamp of approval in this photo. The Class of 1975 received a large amount of awards on this night and also dedicated the yearbook to Mrs. Cynthia Koch for all her outstandng work done with the cast members of George M. Spring Sports Award Night was enjoyed by many, due to the ef- forts of the E Club. Awards were given to members of the track, softball, baseball, golf, and girls’ track teams. The entertainment consisted of parodies, puns and jokes. It was a lot of fun. The even- ing had its serious side as well — with words of praise from admin- istrators and coaches and the spe- cial feeling of accomplishment which pervaded the room. The senior athletes would also like to take this opportunity to thank the E Club for all it has done for athlet- ics throughout our four years at the high school. TENNIS J. Jonaitis (capt). D. The choice was ours when we set out; we each took a different road which developed, from that now time- less moment, into our hopes and desires 2 and some of our answers. Yet Time has given us something that made us feel what we now call our own — is inevitably our own — for no one can take our uniqueness away. What was then is living still — our likes and dislikes intelligence and ability emotions and logic and curiosity — 6 strong enough to give incentive to that perpetual drive demand- ing those mysterious answers. — TaketheTimeto findthem. Time plays no favorites; it rythmati- cally moves along, and it’s up to you to catch the beat. Proving you can do it — timeto practice, giving you the skill of your own talents. Sharing moments with those you love and care about, giving you the pleasurable memories nothing can erase. 10 Listening to those who’ve come before you and after you, and most important, with you — giving you the wisdom of life and man. 11 12 Belonging, evolving, helping, caring 13 producing, directing, befriending for what you put into life — in Time, you’ll someday get back. 15 Time is like the food for a growing redwood tree. As a seedling it looks meek and fragile, waiting for years of water and sunshine to pass, until the seedling grows into a strong, healthy adolescent the height of all others — full of majestic beauty and security and the knowledge of the ages Which only Time has given it, thank God. i6 Take the Time to live. TaketheTimeto give. There are many extra-special people who have taken timeto live and to give with endless vitality and enthusiasm. We’ve found one. And so, We, the Class of 1975, gratefully dedicate our Aquila to MRS. CYNTHIA KOCH for hertimeless imagination and tremendous creative talents which have given a bit of life to everyone who has encountered them. SENIORS r; ' • ' . - ;•• 3 : -• :• . Even as the sea and rain are one In the depths of your hopes and desires Lies your silent knowledge of the beyond; And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow, Your heart dreams of spring. Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity. For what is it to die, But to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, But to free the breath from its restless tides, That it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered? Only when you drink from the river of silence, shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs. Then you will truly dance. Kahlil Gibran Time is the hand touching every human life — touching softly, sometimes gently pushing harshly, pressing deeply leaving imprints of forgotten pictures drawn in yesteryears. Time is the healer that sooths your aches and pains warms you and protects you from the darkness of the night sealing hurts from all outsiders who threaten a vulgar blow. Time is the block between the light and the dark between the old and the new gapping people — on the right or the left one side pushingtowards the other the other pressing to stay in place . . . almost touchingthat final moment of darkness ... The Wolcott High Varsity Soccer team kept up its tradition of winning this year as it ended its fifth straight winning sea- son. The team also participated in its fifth straight post season tournament. In its initial Colonial Conference sea- son the Wolcott High team finished fourth with a 4-3-5 record. A split with Kaynor Tech left Wolcott with a 5-4-5 regular sea- son record. The team's final victory against Kaynor was a very memorable one with Wolcott out-playing Kaynor en- routeto a 3-1 victory. This year’s team entered the tourna- ment ranked last in their division and started raising some eyebrows as they knocked off their first opponent. That game will long stay in the minds of the players as they won before a home crowd, 2-0. In the final game of their varsity ca- reers seniors, Rick Guilfoile, Dave Guil- foile, Kevin Maloney, Leif Peterson, Tom Lokites, Bill Stone, Chris Heidkamp, Joe Ciriello, Len Schaeffer and Bill Hunt staged a valiant attempt at E. 0. The 1974 Wolcott High field hockey team had another good season, ending with a 4- 4-1 record. The team was led by co-captains Ruth Hodges and Joanne Hoos, and guided under the able direction of Miss Geraldine Finlay. Battling against muddy fields (remem- ber the day when we spent an hour before a game filling up the puddles?) and tough oppo- nents, the girls finished their season quite admirably, with the aid of Joanne Hoos’ rec- ord-breaking 15 goals. 107 The 1974 Football team started their second varsity season with high hopes. Unfortunately, because of some bad breaks and key injuries, the team fin- ished with a 2-7-1 record. Led by Co- Capts. Doug Medina, Tom Rock, and Dave Fleming, the team eneded up 2-4-1 in the tough Colonial league. This year’s coaches were Jerry Albino, Rudy Cabata, Steve Barone, and Joe Laskowski. 109 Row 1 L. to R. This year’s Colonial League Champs were led by tri- captains, senior Tom Keane, senior David Clavette and senior John Barbierei. Plagued by in- juries the team managed to bring home a second place in the class B sec- tionals, while taking 10th in the state open. There were no stars on this year's team, but their success was accredited to determination, drive, and a special kind of spirit, which was shown by the members of this year’s team. Ass’t. 130 This year, regrettably, Mrs. Claire DuBois, Secretary to the Principal, will retire. Mrs. DuBois came to Wolcott High School in December, 1958, as the first member of the office staff, with the school still in construction as the first Freshman Class struggled to keep warm on the second floor. In those days, Room 214 was the school office, and Mrs. DuBois competed daily with the mountains of sup- plies, the milk cooler, and the dust which covered every sur- face in the room. During the years between, she has been a participant in and witness to all the years of our happy and eventful life as a school. Conscientious, loyal and truly dedicated, she has seen the student body, faculty and office staff increase steadily over the past seven- teen years as she worked with a quiet and steady concern for all who live in our house. In leaving, Mrs. DuBois takes with her the pride which must be hers at having played so important a part in the life and growth of Wolcott High School. She takes with her as well our gratitude and appre- ciation for a job well done. We send with her our best wishes that her retirement years will be healthy, happy and filled with good things. 131 Mrs. Finnegan Mr. DiCorpo Mrs. Murnane Director of Guidance Mrs. Pirro Secretary GUIDANCE 1 Mr. Joseph Diaferio LearningCenter Mr. De Santo Custodian Miss Russo Librarian Mr. Curulla .A Tutorial Mr. Louis Grasso Special Education Mrs. Coe Asst.
