CLASS HISTORY OF 1955 BY ELLAMAE ALLEN If you will set tight and bear with me a few moments, I will relate to you the story of the class of 1955. In our four years of high school, we have been confronted with a great many problems at which decisions were not so easily reached. All ln all, I think we solved our problems as we saw fit. When the scholars of the class of 1955 have achieved honors in their own fields, I assure each of us will never forget our cherished days ln Wolbach High School. It begins in September 1951 when our class first entered through the portals of Wolbach High as young Green Freshmen From this day forth we have been climbing up the stairway of educa- tion Finally at the end of four years we have reached the top step in our starrway of high school educatron I will try and give you a brief description of each member of the graduating class Betty Kolar always shone w1th 1ntell1gence She has been very active 1n her high school days In her Junlor years he was voted as cheerleader for the Pep Club Betty was one of the four Jun- lor' s to achieve the honor of being tapped 1nto the National Honor Society Marianne Cook was also one of the more stud1ous members of our class She has been cheer leader for two years She was one of the cast members in the Senior Class Play Mananne was hon- ored in her Jumor year by being tapped rnto the National Honor Society Sandra Grossart IS also one of the fortunate person's in our class because of her rntellectual abllit1es She was a cheerleader 1n her Juruor year Her pleasant personality was greatly rewarded ln her Senior year when she was crowned Grid Queen of 1955 11m Marco lS one of the members who has been with us for I2 years seek1ng the top step rn our stairway of education 11m has been very act1ve since h1s Freshman year in 1nter scholastic competitron He has been an active member of the W Club and at the second semester of his Senior year he was tapped 1nto the Nat1onal Honor Society Beverly Bother better known as Smooch to her classmates has always been the llfe of the l ss If you hear a sudden peel of laughter 1n the halls there is no doubt about it 1ts Smooch Bother Beverly has been a cast member rn both our plays She has also been act1ve 1n volleyball Emie Hood better known as ' Govemor ' Came into Wolbach High in l95l from a rural school Ernie has always been the l1fe of the party He has competed 1n inter scholastic competition and he ls also one of the members of the W Club She has been very active in volleyball After graduat1on she lS resolv1ng to settle down and keep use for Richard and to take care of all the l1tt1e Caud1lls' Gerard Noonan IS one of the members of our class that clarms graduation IS going to be one of the most eventful happenings rn his high school career fGerard is known as the Romeo of the Senior Class l He has partrclpated both rn basketball and football In his Senior year he was Pre- sident of the Senior class Margle Steenson has always been known for her gu1etness throughout her four years of hrgh school Her favorxte pastime seems to be spendmg a quiet evening w1th Al Dubas After gradua- t1on Margre plans to take Cl tum at teachrng Juanita Webb IS the beanpole of our class She has partrcrpated 1n both of our class plays Juamta always carries a smrle for those she meets She seems to enjoy spend1ng her t1me w1th tall lanky Melvin Wlbbels B111 Sarmer 1o1ned us 1n our Semor year to f1n1sh cl1mb1ng the SlGll'WCIY of educat1on Wlllll the class of 1955 He has been act1ve rn sports smce he has been here B111 was one of the cast mem- bers of our Senror Play He was an act1ve member of the W Club and Nat1onal Honor Socrety I I ' I 3 o C l l ' l l i I I ' a ll c a . she had taught school for f1ve years after graduating, cmd then longing tor adventure decrded to go west She bought a ranch and runs rt all by herself except for one hired man Imaqme to my surprise when she told me who her hired man was Ronme Prokesh I wanted to see Ronnre but she said he had been herding the sheep and now w1th this snow storm he would probably be on the range for the rest of the week When the storm died down a little I started my journey once more Thrs time I sent to Cali fomia I had always wanted to see a movie set, so I proceeded to visrt one However I was prac- tically scared out of my wits when a very loud voice yelled Cut ' right in my ear I wondered rf they were planning on cuttrng ME so I quickly looked around for a place to hide Just then I heard the same voice call my name rn a surprrsed tone It was Helen Brandt' It seems that she rs a fam ous movie director now and was merely yelling some drrections to the camera men I had lunch with Helen and she told me Marianne Cook was UCIVEIIIIQ on a concert tour and was scheduled to play there that night She invited me to attend with her When we reached the concert hall I was surpnsed to hear so many people ta1k1ng about Mar ianne s playing Idecrded that I really was behmd trmes for I d1d not know Marianne was that famous After the concert I made my way backstage to see Cookre as we had called her rn school Just as I was about to enter her room a polrceman grabbed me and wanted to know what I wastry ing to do I tried to explain that I was an old frlend of hers but he wouldn't belreve me .lust as he was ready to throw me out the door Cookre came to my rescue Boy what a person has to go through to see an old frxend Marianne and I went to her apartment and spent hours talkrng about old times The next day I made reservatrons to fly to Russra The last anyone had heard Brll Sanner J er ry Klllmger and Lyle Caudrll were In Vladrvostok so that was where I decrded to stop frrst When I f1rst reached there I started callrng all the hotels to see whether they were registered I was rn Thlsl done for a week but dec1ded that they kept too late hours for me so I retumed to Amerrca Upon cnrrvrng at Wolbach agarn my next stop was out at the Wrbbels Homestead Just as I got out of my car I saw a woman comrng out of the house to greet me It was Juanrta Wrbbels former ly Webb After her came toddling two 11ttle boys I visrted wrth her awhrle and departed for New York I clrmbed into my car and zoomed along at about 80 mrles and hour anyway that's what the speedometer last regrstered when that reckless truck drrver ran 1nto me I woke up rn a whrte hosprtal bed The doctor was takrng my pulse I flnally got up enough courage to ask whether I'd l1ve or not 'Yes unfortunately you wrll said the doctor Where had I heard that voice before? I opened my eyes and yes rt was Lyle Caudill He had become a fam ous physrclan specralrzing rn surgery of In grown toe narls Sandra Grossart is a nurse rn the same hospital Ellamae maybe you're wonderrng why I have so much money rn my possessron Well I have been collecting on all those bets I made that I would remain an old mard Goodby for now Watch out for those head hunters Your old classmate Mar1or1e Bemey P S A knock was just delrvered on my door guess who was behrnd rt none other than Sue Barr Her husband and Sue had come to vrsrt me smce they were rn Greenland when I went to V1S1I them and the authorrues would not let me m the country to see them 41 u f' ' I ' I I I 0 I : ' . Lrnda Morrrs has been a very actrve member rn the Pep Club and also rn volleyball for the past four years rler marn rnterest seems to be centered around Belgrade She and hq green Ford are almost an inseparable twosome Ronny Prokesh, better known as 'Runt to hrs classmates has always been the lrfe of the class Ronny has been very actrve rn sports durrng hrs hrgh school He fully belreves hrgh school graduation is gorng to be an event worth celebratrng He rs Presrdent of the W Club Donetta Wagner rs one of the more actrve grrls rn our class She has partrcrpated whole heartr ly rn volleyball She has been a cheerleader for three years Donetta was tapped rnto the Natronal Honor Socrety rn her Senror year Lyle Caudrll rs a boy wrth a great deal of determrnatron He has been very actrve rn sports of all types Lyle is known for hrs very strrkrng personalrty He rs also a member of the 'W Club Helen Brandt can always be heard talkrng anywhere rn the schoolhouse rf she rs present Helen has been very actrve as a member of the volleyball squad Her marn rnterest seems to be rn South Dakota, so she says Gerald Krllinger better known as ' Jerk to all hrs classmates seems to have qurte a frttrng nickname Srnce hrs Freshmen year, hrs mrld and trmrd ways have changed qurte consrderably He has been an actrve player for the Mustangs He rs a member of the W Club Sue Ban' was President of the Pep Club rn her Senror year Her extra currrcular actrvrtres consrst of Wayne, Wayne, and more Wayne She rs an actrve member rn volleyball MarJorre Bemey seems to enyoy dancrng consrderably Her hobbres consrst of a scrapbook of Joe photographs of Joe and dates wrth Joe Manorre plans to srgn up wrth a newspaper on the gossrp column because of her abrlrty to acqurre gossrp Ellamae Allen has been actrve rn Volleyball and Pep Club all four years of her hrgh school career She was chosen cheerleader rn her Seruor year Whenever she was asked what branch of the armed forces she lrked She always answered the Arr Force Now knowrng the drfferent characterrstrcs of each member of our class, you wrll very easrly be able to prck out the most promrnent members When we were Freshmen we were rn every class room but our own, but we had solved that problem by the end of the year Durrng the frrst semester of thrs year we were very shocked by the sudden death of one of our classmates Darwrn Werser a promrnent member of the football squad We were then looking up to the next step of our starr way whrch was our Sophomore year Nhen we were Sophomores we had passed the rndrgnrtres of berng a Freshman and we were now feeling as though we were really someone We were very sony to lose Roberta Morrrs at the end of this year Our thrrd step was our Junror year It consrsted of our class play 'The Groom Sard No and also the Junror, Senror Banquet The stars of our play were Jrm Marco and Verlyn Pedersen At the end of thrs year, Verlyn Pedersen transferred to Wahoo and we lost Rachel Petersen Frnally we have clrmbed to the last step of our Starrway and we started the year off wrth a bang by lookrng forward to qraduatron We were very sorry to lose Mrckey Mclntyre and GUY19 B011 nrster Our rllustrrous class was envred by all under classmen who have not as yet achreved the top starr rn the starrway of educatron As I mentroned before, thrs rs one of the most rllustrrous groups of boys and grrls that have ever passed throuqh the portals of Wolbach Hrgh School Im sure that none of us wrll ever be sorry for the long hours of studyrng rt took to reach the top starr of our starrway Ellamae Allen 43- Class of 1955 v . .
