SUPERINTENDENT — ADMINISTRATION To the Class of 1986 — My congratulations to the members of the class of 1986 at Woburn High School. Through your years in Woburn working with our dedicated administrators, teachers, and counselors, you have been instilled with academic and personal skills which, I hope, will carry you through your future years whether they are in the collegiate, business, or industrial sectors. There is no question that these academic areas have instilled you with considerable knowledge in mathematics, science, English, social studies, business, and foreign languages, among other significant programs in our Woburn schools. May 1 take this opportunity to address the other subtle side of your training by these same administrators, teachers, and counselors who have worked so very hard to instill those total lifelong skills of reading, studying, attention to detail, a sense of history in the world around us, a sense of humor, and most im¬ portantly, a sense of your own very important self-worth. Your parents have augmented these important skills in hopes that you will be better prepared for your future lives. In the final analysis, however, the life ahead of you is very much your own. The decisions you make are yours. The goals and ideals you set are your own. You will need to take the ownership to your future in a world very often so complex that you will need to adapt to new situations daily. In order to sur¬ vive in this changing world, these lifelong skills 1 mentioned earlier become of paramount importance. In the words of Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher in space, who tragically became part of the history of this past school year, “Reach for the Stars.” In honor of this distinguished educator and those other gallant astronauts, who brought moments of joy and sorrow on that awful day in January, I am asking all the graduates of the class of 1986 to reach for those same stars and goals as Christa McAuliffe. Sincerely yours, Paul J. Andrews Superintendent of Schools Paul J. Andrews Superintendent of Schools 20
