Graduates of the Class of 1983 - Your years in the Woburn schools are complete. The diplomas are ready. With Joy, pride, and a sense of fear of the unknown, we realistically share in your happiness. Joy and pride are obvious emotions for your parents, grand¬ parents, relatives, friends, staff members and for all graduates. This Joy and pride is shared by all of us as you, The Class of ' 83 enter a world of technology, computers, economic trends and social pressures more complex than prior graduates ever faced. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said on April 23, 1942, We all know that books burn - yet we have the greater knowledge that books cannot be killed by fire. People die, said President Roosevelt, but books never die. He continued stating, No man or no force can abolish memory. Our hope, simply and briefly, is that you always use wisely the memory, skills and attitudes developed through your education in Woburn. Finally, we hope you will gain great strength from your many happy memories and remember this spirit of ' 83 you all share can last forever. Sincerely, Q. Paul J. Andrews Superintendent of Schools William J. Horrigan Assistant Superintendent for Business Lawrence R. Byron Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum 20

The class of 1983 has distinguished themselves as a con¬ cerned, responsible, and enthusiastic student body. As you now leave Woburn High School, I counsel each of you to reflect on those accomplishments which contributed to your past suc¬ cesses. Individually you must face the challenges of a complex world, and everyone of you must be mindful of the purpose for which you spent these past three years. Those individuals with the abilities to think rationally and logically, who can make critical judgments, and who can utilize past knowledge and ex¬ periences, will be the active and effective participants in today’s society and the society of the future. To each and everyone of you my heartiest congratulations and sincere best wishes. James J. Foley Principal James J. Foley Principal 22 Paul K. Sweeney Assistant Principal Robert DeLuca Housemaster
