HENRY D. BLAKE Principal Yearbook Message To The Members of The Class of 1 977 The year 1977 marks the one hundred twenty-fifth anniver¬ sary of the establishment of the Woburn High School. To be privileged, by your graduation in June 1977, to become an associate of the thousands of alumni of the school is to be reminded of the contributions of your predecessors during the past century and a quarter to the welfare of our community, state, and nation — humble achievements as well as great. Times like the present, times of great peril, are also times to carry on tasks — and to reconstruct our faith in the present. These are times to reflect that the most significant values of our day have a moral base. The recognition of the supreme importance of the individual personality is the basic moral and spiritual value in American life. It has been well said, “Whatever differences exist among individuals should be regarded by the school, not as the basis for the formation of hostile groups but rather as a means to enrich the common life. We forget often that what counts is not what the individual can’t do, but what he can do. We must learn to make use of the ability that each possesses and to disregard the disability. On the eve of graduation in June 1 977 it is our wish that each will contribute his own unique talents to make the last quarter of the twentieth century a happier and more significant life of positive values for all.
