DR. CHARLES LAMONTAGNE Superintendent Congratulations to the Class of 1974. Many significant national and international events have happened in your school years, and particularly during these last few. The future presents many problems about the environment, nations’ governments, ecology, personal worth, life style, one’s responsibilities, and one’s individuality. You have the abounding resources of youthfulness, vitality, and creativity. These combined, will assist you to meet the future head on and to realize your goals as have others before you. Your tasks may not be as easy as were those of others, thus it will be necessary to exercise to the fullest your talent, learning, and potential. The challenge is real. Difficulties mastered are the true opportunities,” a wise philosopher once remarked. My sincerest best wishes to each of you. Charles W. Lamontagne Superintendent of Schools EDWARD MARASHIO Assistant to the Superintendent JEROME T. LYNCH Deputy Superintendent BERTHA BANE Assistant Superintendent

To the Class of 1974 It has been written that the great task of the 1970’s in education is to humanize the school. The great building programs and structural reorganization that took place during the 1960’s should serve now, in this decade as foundation blocks where the approach should be to emphasize students over buildings and to create a place where free¬ dom means order without regimentation, a place where teachers do care, a place with which the student identifies and possesses a sense of belonging. It has been increasingly a concern and major strength of the Woburn Senior High School to provide a humane school where the student learns not only to work with others and to understand him¬ self better, but also to learn how he can best fit into society. In the long history of the school since its founding in 1852, emphasis has always been placed on providing for the educational needs of the youth who attend the school; but in 1974 the deep social concern to provide the best psychological atmosphere for each stu¬ dent has assumed overriding importance. On your eve of graduation in June, 1974, it is our sincere hope that in your association with the Woburn Senior High School, you have found that your future welfare as a human being has been a matter of daily solicitude by the teachers and administrators. May your future be as bright as the hopes we express. Henry D. Blake Principal HENRY D. BLAKE Principal JAMES F. BRENNAN Vice Principal PAUL K. SWEENEY Vice Principal 21
