Students Reflect Excellence in Mathematics All students, whether preparing for a business career, college or homemak¬ ing, have one course in common — mathematics. The goal of the Math Depart¬ ment, under the direction of Miss Virginia Hall, is to introduce forms of mathe¬ matics that will be meaningful and useful to students after graduation. Well-trained teachers aware of what’s happening in a rapidly changing field, the latest in textbooks and equipment, and an expanding math library contrib¬ ute to a math department. An active Math Club, and a successful Team show that the students are taking full advantage of the math training. The Math Team has competed with teams from surrounding communities and has won distinc¬ tion in many meets. Several Woburn High students have been awarded top priz¬ es and individual honors, a fine tribute to the excellence of the Department and its instructors. A digital computer for second semester is available in the math lab for stu¬ dents this year. Miss Hee emphasizes a point. 28

Teachers of the future Linguistic and Cultural Values Advanced in Foreign Languages The programs of the Foreign Language Department are designed to help students bet¬ ter understand other cultures and someday communicate with these people. The wide variety oflanguage offerings and the advanced courses offer students an excellent oppor¬ tunity to attain this communication and understanding. Through the use of an audio- lingual approach, the beginning years of the language programs stress basic conversa¬ tional ability and a knowledge of grammar; they also provide a basis for appreciation of more advanced work. In the upper levels of foreign language learning, students continue to develop language skills, become more familiar with the literature and civilization of the country, and learn to discuss a wide range of topics. Additional information about the art, music and culture of the countries is provided by each of the language clubs. Discussion develops in French class Qufe P sa? it! row: Miss Potter, Miss Boyajian, Mrs. Maguire, Mrs. LeGrand, Miss Greenspan, 2nd row: Miss Farrell, Miss Sumburg, Miss Gately, Miss Condon, Mrs. Adams.
