Chief Rawson, Sargent Bevers, Captain Street, Chief Murphy Leadership — Responsibility — Pride The Naval Science Department is a recent ad¬ dition to the many courses of study offered to the young men of Woburn High School. The Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Program has been established through an Act of Congress and has been approved by the Secretary of the Navy. The purpose of the Pro¬ gram is to develop leaders with a strong sense of responsibility, pride, and self-reliance. The Naval Cadets meet twice weekly in regu¬ lar classroom study. They explore such subjects as Naval Seapower, Naval Tradition, Oceanogra¬ phy, and other extremely interesting topics. On a previously specified day, the Naval Cadets as¬ semble on the parade grounds and are instructed in the basics of close order drill and the manual of arms. Commandant congratulates drill team. Hep! One, Two, Three Hail the leader of the band! 24

Two areas which are vital to the efficient functioning of the school are the office communications center and the Health suite. Did you hear the one about . . . ?” Art Department Meets Demands and ' Expectations of the Students Expanded by the addition of Miss Barbara Bulova and Mrs. Dorothy Ponti at the high school, the Art Department con¬ tinues to grow and meet the demands and expectations of the art (interested) and art oriented students of Woburn. Under the direction of Mr. Frank Newark. Creative stu¬ dents are involved in such diversified crafts as creative de¬ sign, ceramics, batik, enameling, and architecture. Also in¬ cluded in the course is painting, experimenting with pen and ink, charcoal, tempera, oils, and water colors, and an enlarger art appreciation course. Gerry explains project to fellow artists. Woburn High Art Gallery Mr. Newark explains with visual aids to budding artists. 25
