Dedication : We The Class of 1970 have recognized that the qualifications of a high school graduate, in a rapidly progressing society, have become inordinately complex. Therefore we have realized that more than a for¬ mal education is required. Besides intellectual academics, one must also develop socially and physically to be a cognizant cog in the wheel of modern living. Among the many competent instructors at Woburn High School one individual has dedicated himself to presenting these intellectual, social and physical necessities in multiple fashion. Intellectually he has been stimulating in the classroom while never avoiding good humor or discarding student problems. Socially he has helped us reach maturity by his sound guidance and leadership as chief advisor to the Student Council, and certainly as former advisor to our Freshman Class. Physically as Coach of the Soccer Team he has clearly demonstrated his knowledge and athletic prowess in accumulating an enviable record as well as the respect of his team, their opponents and coaches. Therefore if it is possible in our future lives to concern ourselves in society in as many ways as this per¬ son has concerned himself with The Class of 1970 then much of our success must rest in a sense by our em¬ ulating him. We dedicate The 1970 Innitou to a most dedicated, responsible, personable and concerned individual you . . . Mr. Robert DeLuca

Superintendent Dr. J. Frank Hassett To the Class of 1970: You are the first class to be graduated in this new dec¬ ade of the seventies. Sometimes we feel that when a new decade begins, we have left behind the errors of the past and are given a chance to start anew. The nineteen sixties was indeed a troubled period in the history of our country and of the world. It is deplorable that the problems of war, famine, air and water pollution, slum areas, and many more, that were a part of your early life, are still with us. If they could have been solved you might now go forth upon graduation day into a utopian world where each of you would be free to pursue his individual happiness. However, man always has needed challenge in order to progress. The discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel, the taming and use of electricity, and most recently, the reaching out into space to walk on the moon, were all brought about by man’s basic need for challenge. You are entering a world of challenge. Whatever your native talent may be, you can use it to help in the solution of at least one of these diversified problems. During the next ten years you will have launched upon a career. Hope¬ fully you will have dedicated yourself to the full use of your talents for the betterment of society. We, of an older generation, are proud of you. We have faith in your youth, energy, and intelligence. You will help write the story of the coming decades. May it be a giant step forward in the history of man.” God bless each of you. DR. J. FRANK HASSETT Superintendent of Schools I. Edward Marashio assistant to the superintendent Assistant Superintendent Jerome T. Lynch 20
