Brady This beats addition! This department, under the di¬ rection of Miss Doris T. Lynch, is designed for pupils who plan to be stenographers, bookkeepers or clerks, and also provides prepara¬ tion for the fields of accounting, salesmanship, the administration of small business and the area of civil service. The program provides terminal education for many students and the strategic location of the City of Woburn in relation to industrial Route 128 and the banking and in¬ surance centers of Boston provides numerous opportunities for employ¬ ment. In addition, the Business Educa¬ tion Department provides valuable electives in personal typing and gen¬ eral business for the pupils in all other curricula at Woburn High School.

Houde (Classics Club Advisor), Mr. Anthony Feroci (Span¬ ish Club Advisor) Foreign Languages Because of the rapidly increasing need for a working knowledge of foreign languages in both education and the business world, our foreign language department, under the direction of Mr. Ernest Mazzone, has revolutionized its outlook in the brief period of time that he has been associated with the high school foreign language program. The study of elementary Spanish and French, as well as Russian, on Saturday mornings, is devoted entirely to aural- oral (hearing-speaking) comprehension. A simplified laboratory composed of tape recorders and head sets helps the student acquire the necessary pattern and structural drills. As a result of this method, students, when beginning to read and write, glide into foreign lan¬ guages undaunted by vowels of differ¬ ent value and unintimidated by new alphabets. In the field of classical lan¬ guages, the study of Latin offers the student a vital link with the glories of a past civilization and makes even more pleasant and rewarding the study of Spanish, French, English, as well as World History and Biology. Music Library Art Miss Sheeran is always willing to help. Left to right, Mr. Edson L. Kimball (Director of Senior Play, Band, Orchestra), Miss Helen Sheeran (Librarian, Future Teachers Club Advisor), Mr. Frank Newark (Art, Fine Arts Club Advisor) Mr. Edson L. Kimball, head of the Music Department, is directly responsible for our talented band and orchestra. These groups participate in many school functions and give senior high musicians a chance to dis¬ play their abilities in public. Music appre¬ ciation classes are designed to enrich the students knowledge of the great wealth of music which has come to us down through the centuries. In the Art Department, a course intended to produce a basic understanding of the prin¬ ciples of both two and three dimensional de¬ sign is offered under the guidance of Mr. Frank Newark. Problems basically adaptable to either commercial or fine art techniques are solved, and the history of art is dis¬ cussed. The Harlow Library has a collection of sev¬ eral thousand books, hundreds of periodicals and pamphlets, and a number of filmstrips and recordings. The primary function of the library is to provide resources for students and teachers and to stimulate reading. Each year a Paperback Book Fair is held under the direction of the School Librarian, Miss Helen Sheeran. 16
