The Social Studies Department, under the direction of Miss Geraldine A. Soles, provides an understand¬ ing of the road of human history and knowl¬ edge of the workings of our government and the challenges which it faces. World His¬ tory shows the great epic of man’s life on this planet, and gives the general background of history necessary for good citizenship. United States History throws light upon the tremendous development of this youthful republic, and shows the problems which our nation faces as a world leader. The Problems of Democracy course makes students more fully aware that only through individual re¬ sponsibility and participation in government can the tide of Communism be stopped and freedom be spread. Since individual participation is the cor¬ nerstone of democracy, students have be¬ come more fully aware of the workings of our government through the Student Coun¬ cil and the annual class elections.
