J. FRANK HASSETT Our Superintendent MESSAGE TO THE GRADUATING CLASS You are one of the thousands of graduat¬ ing classes throughout the length and breadth of our land. From among you will come the statesmen, the scientists, the philosophers, the teachers, the doctors, and the religious lead¬ ers who will decide the destiny of the world for the next fifty years or more. The respon¬ sibility seems frightening in the face of to¬ day ' s precarious world situation, but it is also a tremendous and inspiring challenge. Many of the older generation have grown weary of the struggle. Your efforts in working toward the ultimate goal of a peaceful world with freedom for all peoples will be similar to a transfusion of fresh new blood to a tired soldier. Your faith, high ideals, and courage, coupled with your innate abilities, will make an invincible weapon against iqnorance and tyranny. The only danger we face is that of Youth ' s becoming lackadaisical and indifferent; of each underestimating his own importance in the General Plan. Let me say in the words of Father Keller, You CAN change the world. You must not feel that you have finished your education upon leaving High School. You must keep on learning and developing your native talents. You must start early to take an active interest in community, civic, and national affairs, contributing new ideas wher¬ ever possible. Yours is a tremendous task, but you have the youth, courage, and faith in God to face it. As we watch you leave the Woburn High School this June of nineteen hundred fifty- seven with a strong feeling of hope for your future and that of the whole world, we say, God bless you. 8 J. FRANK HASSETT Superintendent of Schools
