JUN 11 yy ' 89260 V) 57 7 X5 foreword... As the years pass on, methods of travel become more complex. We have advanced from the so-called horse and buggy era through the different stages to the Diesel engines and the jet-propelled planes of the atomic age. In similar manner in travel through our educational career, we have journeyed from the problems of simple reading, writing, and arithmetic through the more advanced stages of the complicated processes of reasoning, interpreting and evaluating. Thus shall we continue to travel along life ' s highways meeting the chal¬ lenges of progress and the resulting adjustments to life. As we travel, may this book remind us that we have met and overcome the difficulties of the past with the same sense of humor and good judgment that we will maintain in fac¬ ing the future.

Zo the Class of1953°. The task of organizing, preparing, and pub¬ lishing the Yearbook of the Class of 1953 of Woburn High School is one of considerable magnitude. Its success is a tribute to the fac¬ ulty advisers, the staff, and the class. In one sense a school Yearbook is merely a pictorial record of the senior year of a high school class. In a much greater sense it is a permanent memento of the associations, the friendships, the aspirations, the trials, and the dreams in a far too fleeting period of a most precious time of life. Although the class may never meet again in its entirety, this remem¬ brance of times past will enable you to retain the memory of your classmates with you al¬ ways. Just one hundred years ago, the first class was in attendance in the Woburn High School. What advances have taken place in secondary education since that day! The few pupils who were then subjected to the classroom work were privileged members of the community. Now the modern high school has become the great example of democracy in action, pro¬ viding for the educational needs of all Ameri¬ can youth. The doorway to knowledge stands open to all. There are no machinations, no ex¬ clusions, no contrived demands! In the successful completion of your high school career, you are the product of a great democratic institution. As we stand on the threshold of the second century in secondary education in the Woburn High School, may success attend your days and may you keep intact the ideals of your church, your home, and your school in the perilous times ahead- In this way you will attest to your faith in the American way.
