VcCE IO r WOBURN PUBLIC LIBRARY WOBURN HIGH SCHOOL Woburn, Massachusetts JUN 12 I960 Q CD C foreword Because of the wealth of Indian lore which Woburn possesses, we have decided to keep the motif of The Innitou (The Looking Glass) in Indian style. Thus our dividers feature the early inhabitants of our city in all their strength and character as they might have been por¬ trayed in days of yore. Together with our advisers we have en¬ joyed working for the success of our Yearbook and we sincerely hope that it will serve as a source of pleasure to our classmates for many years to come. Dedication DORIS T. LYNCH LOUISE S. MAWN This issue of the INNITOU would never have been a success were it not for the many afternoons of hard work and helpful guid¬ ance afforded us by our kind advisers. We shall always remem¬ ber the many hours of patient assistance in our behalf. We, the class of Nineteen Fifty, therefore, take pleasure in dedicating this issue to Miss Doris T. Lynch and Miss Louise S. Mawn as a small token of gratitude. J. FRANK HASSETT To the Members of the Senior Class: The Age of Security has arrived in our country. Federal and State Laws now re¬ quire all working citizens or their employer, and in some cases both, to set aside a small portion of their earnings for security in their old age. Some of you will continue your education in September at schools of higher learn¬ ing; others among you will enter immediately into the competitive field of employment. You will be told about Social Security Withholding, Labor Union Membership, Blue Cross Health Insurance, U. S. Savings Bonds, etc., which will be withheld from your salary wherever you work. Although these withholdings will lower your take home salary, all are worthwhile benefits which will later help to guarantee security should you become ill, unemployed, or eventually reach the compulsory retirement age. Lest we forget, we do live in a Modern City, a Progressive Commonwealth, and a County which has Godās Blessing. Opportunities are numerous, and your chances for success in life are excellent. Congratulations to you, and to your Parents upon your completion of your high school course. J. Frank Hassett Superintendent of Schools OREL M. BEAN I am very happy to extend to you my sincere congratulations upon your graduation from Senior High School. It is my hope that you will consider this only a step in the pro¬ cess of education and that you may have the desire and opportunity to continue the work well started. Today as never before there is a great demand for leadership of high quality and in¬ tegrity. Your opportunities for worthwhile achievement are unlimited. You have the cour¬ age, the imagination, and energy of youth in one of the most interesting periods of history, and you should view the years ahead with optimism. By continued study you should pre¬ pare yourselves to take part actively as informed and responsible citizens in the solution of social, economic, and political problems of community, state, and nation. You will do well to remember that it is character which will determine the extent of your individual success. Therefore, dare to be fine, true, and upright in all that you do. Your Yearbook, is a marked achievement. We rejoice with you in its success. As you turn its pages through the years, memories of happy days at Woburn Senior High School will give you great enjoyment. We have all found pleasure in working with and helping you while you have been in high school, and w ' e shall look forward to any further service we may render. May you yourselves find the satisfaction in achievement that comes with hard work and honest en¬ deavor. May good health and prosperity attend you and the years ahead be happy ones. Orel M. Having parted with everything that we treasured for three years (ex¬ cept our memories), we sign and seal this document on the first day of June. One Thousand Nineteen Hundred and Fifty. THE CLASS OF 1950 Our Prayer by Thomas John Galvin, Jr. Teach us, O Lord, that we may know The evil from the good. Teach us to live with every man In peace and brotherhood. Help us, O Lord, that we may take The bitter with the sweet. Help us to reach the victory That lies beyond defeat. Guide us, O Lord, that we may live In truth and modesty. Guide us that we may worthy be To serve and follow Thee. Class So ay Tune: Love ' s Old Sweef Song Rita Vallance Though we depart from these familiar halls, We shall remember all our happy past. Sad are our thoughts at leaving friends behindā Friends who have ever been both good and kind. Now as life ' s doer is open to our dreams We shall be guided by your star ' s bright beams Woburn High, we love you, Friends and teachers dear; And in mem ' ry always, We shall keep you near. Now as time grows closer, We shall breath a sigh. As we sadly bid you Our last goodbyeā Our last fond goodbye. OREL M. BEAN The wisdom of the past combined with the reality of the present tends to give a vision of the future. Thus Woburn High School has been very fortunate in having as a principal for the past thirty three years (1917-1950) a man who has exhibited just those qualities. Mr Bean has been a friend and counsellor to all the students who have attended this school through¬ out the years. Having been appointed to the faculty of the school in 1910, he taught for seven years before assuming fhe duties of principal. There are many graduates of the school who knew him not as a principal but as a teacher, and we feel sure that they also will recall his many kind deeds and his keen interest in each student. In the future when we reflect upon our high school days, we shall re¬ member a dominant personality whose first interest was always the welfare of his school and the students in it. ijMjlgl; otA-ejL. ā ' ' a.
