These are words we hear many times during our high school years. Certainly, they were the happiest days of our lives and we did enjoy them. But happy living is not all gaiety. As the clouds make the sunshine brighter, tears, anxiety, fear and countless other emotions are the essence of happy living. During our Junior year we experienced the shock and sadness of losing one of our ranks to death. We remember JoAnn Jensen in our halls, classrooms, and activities. The loss of JoAnn reminds us that 'each individual has a certain place among us. Her death saddened us all. She was part of our drama. At Wittenberg we see this drama and emotion portrayed in a thousand ways each hour, each moment, each year. We see both joy and despair in the faces of our students at report card time. The excitement at our games, the spirit at our pep assemblies, the tension of our elections, and the anticipation and joy as we chose our royalty, are moments we all shared between September and June. It is on these moments we have based the Wittonian. 3 In Memory of JO ANN LYNN JENSEN With fond remembrance, we, the class of 1963, dedicate this edition of the Wittonian to our former friend and classmate, Jo Ann L7 Jensen, who passed away in December of 1961. 4 The '63 Wittonian Contents Activities - 9 Organizations Sports - 45 Faculty -6I Classes - 67 Seniors - 77 5 3 ' Mr. and Mrs. Jackson and Children Congratulations, members of the Sen- ior Class. Best wishes to you in the future. It is hoped that the faculty and non-teach- ing personnel of the Wittenberg Public Schools have helped both graduating Sen- iors and underclassmen to gain a good, substantial background and to think criti- cally. Remember that one mark of an edu- cated person concerns the degree in which that individual can adjust to new situa- tions. Based on the changes which have taken place in the past quarter century, we anticipate that more than half of our present high school students will earn a living at jobs which do not even exist in 1963. May your life as an Alumnus of Wittenberg High School bring honor to you and to your community. Yours very sincerely, f' Superintendent To: Students at Wittenberg High School One of the objectives of Education is to train pupils to accept responsibility. To be a citizen in any significant sense implies taking responsibility for ones ideas and actions. Responsibility is learnedg it is not a native capacity. WiIdcat's Tale The aim of the Wildcat's Tale, our school newspaper, is to com- bine work of the Commercial and English departments in making our school better known not only to our own students. but to students of oth- er schools and parents. To achieve this we attempt to write articles that reflect school life and are interest- ing to our readers. We gain experi- ence in writing, assume responsibil- ities by meeting deadlines, and strive to be original in our reporting of the news and events of the school.
