Homecoming week 79 was another huge success for WBHS. All week competition was strong, each class work- ing super hard on decorating their wall with posters, on floats that were displayed in the Parade Friday and trying to get their classmates to participate in the different day activities such as toga day or inside out day. All this com- H 1 0 ' And this is YOUR life!! ’' petition wasn't just for fun. Student Council decided to try something new, each class would be judged on their floats, posters, class participation, and the yell contest at the pep rally. The winner of the most events, their repre- sentatives would be crowned Homecoming Princess. And when all the tallies were in, the Freshmen had won. The busy week ended traditionally on Friday with the football game and the dance following with reining Queen Margie and King Butch. L. The cooperation of the cast, crew, and directors transformed the WBHS Auditorium into a “Major Musical Achievement,” in the W-B School Dis- trict. The carefully selected cast, a tribute to director Mrs. Luedtke, wove all parts of the musical into a singing pattern of enchantment. Mr. Froom and Mr. Clough carefully designed and constructed the set. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein combined their talents in the 60's to give the public one of their most delightful musicals. This year marked the death of Richard Rodgers, but we feel the members of the WBHS production of The Sound of Music, paid him honor in their excellent performance, and also gave the people of the surrounding communities a demonstra- tion of exulted standards of student behavior in this music and drama extravaganza!! I also like to eat at McDonalds I have two families here. Arthur Matz and family and the Merton Cherry family. They have both helped me to learn English better. This is great because the student who is inclined to want to further his education can now take chorus and have it count towards graduation requirements. The purpose of music in education is to help bring a knowledge of self to the student through emphasiz- ing the experiences and feelings they have for them- selves and others as performers, listeners, and as human beings. Chorus helps the student learn that he or she has something to contribute and increases the students’ awareness of values, besides hopefully increasing their musical knowledge. A Petlatt D Fischer Madrigal 1979-80 Fantastic and fun are adaquate descriptions of this year’s talented and top performers, that were lucky enough to be selected to be Madrigal mem- bers. As you know, last year’s group went to state. Mrs. Luedtke selects students for Madrigal who can sight-read, sight-sing, and can hold their part indi- vidually. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to sing Madrigal music properly. Congratulations all! Swing Choir 1979-80 Talent, rhythm, and coordination are all qualifica- tions for the student who desires to be a member of Swing Choir. This year’s group is proving to be a successful group of troopers and really put in the practice. With Mrs. Luedtke as director, 16 girls, 8 boys, and student accompanists, they put together a group that had a lot of potential and had the will to work at it. This year’s informal ini- tiation took place in the WB chorus room and was transformed into a beauty shop of sorts. A lot of raw egg was used, which is extremely good for the hair. At any rate, TRI’M’s performed at the X-mas concert, the Spring Concert, and graudation. Being a frater- nity, many close friendships are formed in this group, and we always look forward to graduates returning for a visit. Once a TRI’M's member, you are a member for life. Mrs. Luedtke is the WB Chap- ter Sponsor, and the TRI-M goal is to bring joy to themselves and to others in their lifetime, through service to music. Music which is food for the soul. The CHARGER school newspaper is com- prised of nearly twenty dedicated students who use their creative writing skills and imiaginative ideas in keeping the student body informed of school events and happenings. The staff meets every month to discuss the latest school activities with its two teacher- advisors, Mrs. Beggs and Mr. Stanek. These ideas are compiled into a school newspaper, which comes out to the student body and fac- ulty from four to six times yearly. These student ideas are formed into new articles, which is in turn typed up in proper form by the clerical office practice students. The typed material is then sent to the local Wit- tenberg Enterprise News Office and duplicated into a fashionable-looking school newspaper. 69 Library Cadets Row 1: K. Low, D. Knipfel.
