Terror of the Track Boys' track and field proved to be another highpoint of Charger sports in the 1972-73 school year. This was accomplished through dedication, hard work, and guts from every member of the squad, each trying to excel in his indi- vidual event. This hard work proved to be rewarding as the Charger thinclads copped three large invitationals, brought home the conference trophy, and sent four individuals to state. Getting psyched for the upcom- ing run. Dem d'ere boys dun did win. When I said I’d like to see as much of an athlete as possi- ble , I meant abilify, NOT BODY! 26 Over the hurdles and through the puddles to the finish line we go.

Great Athletic Ability? An organization which at the start of the year attracts both athletic and non-athletic girls is GAA. In the beginning if you put all the members of GAA into one room, you’d have quite a tight fit. If you put all the mem- bers into one room at the end of the year, there would be lots of room to spare. Don’t get us wrong! GAA is not a great slimming program! It seems to easily lose members, not pounds. GAA provides a release for all types of girls in WB High. It's activities go from bowling to line soccer. The steady goers to the GAA activities and those that stick it out are really the hard- guy girls of Witt-Birn High. Joyce attacks! Dig those muscles. The perfect form. Butt-eautiful. I can't get my butt out of gear! 25

The rain shrunk my shot-put! . . . and Mary Lou, this time go to the bathroom BEFORE you run the mile. And it says here all managers must wear a pleasant smile! I knew I shouldn't have eaten lunch! I wish 1 could use my frisby. A New Field in W-B Girls'Sports The spring of 1973 marked the beginning of a new girls' athletic sport - o track and field. Even though the girls knew very little about the sport, they soon realized their coaches knew just as much. They went by the books until the first meet, when they found out what was really going on. The books never told how tough opposition could be, or how inexpe- rience and lack of confidence can play a part in losing a meet. But in the end they came through with a victory which brought back their con- fidence and gave them experience enough to hopefully make next year bigger and better. 27
