Their creae tivity and enthusiasm makes Withrow what it is. In them, the poetry of the building comes alive It is to those students that the following section is dedicated. 53 To My Dearest Darling , , , Shadows of a Room It's dlfflcult to express how I really teel. Terry Langford Photo by Chip Donaidson Pve Been There Sometimes it's hard to deal with life. Some things happen which cannot be controlled; then we have to face reality. For some folks life is just heartaches and pains. We say to ourselves, If this isn't hell, I donit know what is! To me, life is a test, a Survivalii, you either live or die. IVs also an accomplishment. You do all you can to be the best at what you do, when you do it, and how you do itJ And when you make it through it all, you can look up to your kids and say . . . Believe me, live been there. Terry Langford BRIEF THOUGHTS I saw the light when at first you smiled at me. Robyn McWenney Without love, power, and prob- lems, life is dead. Our task is to create harmony from this confusion . .. Love from these intanglements. Anonymous. The Inevitable Unknown I wish frustration was a feeling unknown to me. But if it wasn't frustration there would be another word in its place to make me jittery and tearful. I wish impatience would have a little patience with me. If so waiting for my life to be put in its proper perspective, wouldnlt turn my insides into turmoil or put my mind in a mental tube stored in my brain or heart whether it be general life or love. After a successful parade and football game, the Homecoming Dance was the crowning event. Named King and Queen were David Stewart and Laura Titsworth and a lovely eve- ning was enjoyed by all. Whether it was commemorating a fallen leader, as in the Martin Luther King Day assembly, 01 commemorating a spirit of unity, as in the tree planting ceremony in association with the Hyde Park Commu- nity Council, Withrow once again upheld its tradition of fine assemblies. From a whole school gathering to an assembly, of four, the togetherness displayed by the Tiger community comes in all shapes and sizes. HELPING A MAN AND MANKIND Withmw students are involved in a variety of activities outside the school community. Among the no- table events occurring during 1979- 80 involved Senior Mark Mitchell. Mark has worked for two years as a waiter aboard the steamship Delta Queen. This summer he was privi- ledged to serve the President of the United States while Mr. Carter and his family enjoyed a week long jour- ney. We had a lot of problems during this school year, especially with the month shut down in the fall and the early deadline on the yearbook for spring delivery. There were a few figures in the development of this book. Much of the credit goes to Mrs. Nancy Bal- lard, the advisor and main figure in putting it together. Without her dedication and help, it would have been a hopeless cause. I hope every- one enjoys this book as much as Ilvc enjoyed working on it. Getting this book out has been my only goal this year and 1m very proud to say that this book is part of me. Ild like to say thanks for the dedicated help from Mrs. Ballard, Rog, Tracy, Arnetta, Janice, Gary, Bruce, and Tom. I would also like to acknowledge the administration and faculty of Withrow for their as- sistance and support of this yearbook. Executive Studios and Herff Jones Publishing C0., should also receive credit, for without their help, I wouldnlt have survived the year. Thanks also to those people who played a smaller, yet distinctively important role in this book, especially Arnetta Atkins, Tracey Davis and Janice Ford.
