GRIDIRON GROWLS The 1977-78 football team was short on size and experience, but not in speed and tenacity, as they won three games and narrowly missed winning two others. The season began with an exciting 16-14 last minute win over Hamilton Garfield. With the tigers trailing 14-3 late in the fourth quarter. quarterback Bingo Cranford connected with Thomas Weaver for a touchdown pass and two point conversion. The tigers next victory was a 8-6 squeaker over P.H.S.L foe Taft. The highlight of the season for the players, coaches and fans, had to be their 42-6 annihila- tion of Columbusys Central High. In the game running back Iay Isabell ran for over 200 yards and two touchdowns. Ronnie Crawford also chip'ped in a pair of touchdowns while the de- fense stifled Central. The rest of the season dtd'nt shine nearly as well on the tigers. They lost heartbreakers t0 Walnut Hills 7-6 and Pur- cell 17-14. The coaching staff of Rusche. Shestina, and Willis, should once again be commended for their dedication. This years MVP award went to a most de- serving recipient, Kermit Smith. Kermit was a defensive specialist even though he did catch a touchdown pass against Hughes. The defensive player of the year award was won by Dwight ttMad Dog Porter. The offensive player of the year award went to senior Eric McDonald.
